It's extremely difficult to tell a child that they have lost their parent.My children went through this twice. Their birth dad died when they were children. Then they lost the stepdad who loved them, and raised them, last year, when they were young adults, the youngest child still at home.
It is a horrible thing. If your parents are elderly, it is to be expected, but still hurts. When they are young, and in a circumstance like this, it is an absolute horror.

Prayers for you and your family. So horrible.

For me, Emily Dickinson’s “pain so utter” has been knowing that my son, my only child, suffers. I could deal with anything except him having to deal with anything. I lost my best friend of 30 years; I watched him pass while our son held him. Our son was 26. My personal loss was nothing compared to the pain I felt for my son’s loss. This pain threatened to swallow me up.

I finally realized this: My son is a soul, here to experience the same way we all are here to experience. I was putting him into a category that labeled him as a person whose total being would be swallowed up by grief and sorrow. Effectively, I labeled my son as a less powerful soul. This was completely false and was created by my ignorant parent’s heart. I was creating the swallow-up threat for myself.

I hope you are not doing as I have done, but if you are, I wanted to tell you this tidbit I learned the hard way. When I allowed myself to feel devastated for his pain, I was less for him despite my faking it. Thankfully, a nurse kicked my ass on that.

I know you hurt for your loss, for your son’s loss, for your granddaughter’s loss, and for everybody’s loss. It sucks to be on this side of death no matter what we know or what we believe. We all wish we could take the pain away for you and for your family.

Cry, then cry some more. Hold each other and cry together. One day you will be able to laugh together as you discuss happy memories of your physical time with her.

Your granddaughter might know something. My 4-year-old great niece lost her father to cancer. She had a melt down the morning he passed as the adults had kept her away from him during his last hours (when he reported to his wife/my niece about the silvery lighted people waiting for him, with Jesus at the back of the crowd). All of a sudden, the little one stopped screaming, smiled while looking out into the parking lot, and sang a song. She then told the adults that she was OK. She got to sing one more time with Daddy, Daddy was going to be with her from his new way, and Mama would get her a second Daddy that she could see every day and do things with.

So very sorry for your tragic loss. Kids are resilient, and as Livi sai, it will be alright! Prayers for comfort, strength and peace

That's what I think whenever I hear a story like this.


In some way, THEY are the "lucky" ones. And we who are left are the ones feeling the pain of their loss, and whatever is coming next.

And it WILL be bad.

I know it sucks to have to think about legal action at a time like this. My good friend and former neighbor used a specialty vaccine law firm in Boston and they recovered damages for him over flu shot injuries via the VICP. Covid vax claims are being handled via CICP and it seems much harder to recover any kind of damages but might be worth looking at.
