do you have to be sleeping to astral project? or how does it work?

I have astral projected during my sleep, and have freaked out friends when I show up in their room at night, and suddenly disappear. Most people that astral project have an intuitive knowledge of their energy body, and many already see auras.  It's a form of remote viewing. I used to do experiments with my mom - she would place a two digit number on the couch, usually using two full pieces of paper and black Sharpie. I would report back the next day, and vice versa. We totally beat the odds.
