Did Jesus lie to the scribe?
Luke 10:25-28

When asked by the lawyer how to attain eternal life, Jesus let him answer his own question which was written in the Law.

Jesus then confirmed his answer by saying "do this and you will live."

Nothing was said about the need to accept his sacrificial death... nothing was said about a cross.... nothing was said that you must believe in Himself.

Was he confused? or did he lie?

Re: Did Jesus lie to the scribe?
If one believes, he does. If he does not believe, he does not follow the commandments. Belief is obedience, which is why believers are called disciples. There is no separating faith from action as actions are the proof of the professed faith. A tree is known by the fruit it bares. Anyone claiming to have faith whose actions are contrary to what his mouth claims, is in for a very rude awakening.

His martyred death as sacrifice for the remission sin is a false religion that was created centuries later.

But he was incorrect in saying ‘do this and you will live’. Everyone lives on after death. Eternal life is not something that is granted based on one’s belief or actions.

But since the Sadducees did not believe in life after death and this man had been listening to Jesus say there was, this was Jesus’ way of getting him to believe and linking it to the preferred way to live which is doing good and believing in the Creator Great Spirit.

Re: Did Jesus lie to the scribe?
Of course not. He merely presented the truth or in this case mis-truth and resulting effects and consequences unto a man who has yet to witness nor understand the full scope of consequences of his own actions. And not a moment too soon. Or was it? We do not know. To be a mirror to sin and reveal the negative effects that follow is neither an act of deceit nor a grievance for- well, that's reserved for the Elect but that's beyond the point.

MAN LIES TO HIMSELF. TO WIELD THE SWORD IN THE PRESENCE OF A LAMB SO ENTANGLED IN VINES IT IS CLOSE ENOUGH TO DEATH TO BELIEVE ITSELF TO BE FREE AND NO LONGER STRUGGLE, TO NOT CUT SAID VINES WHILST CASTING THIS INACTION AS "TRUTH" AND "MORAL" IS THE BIGGEST LIE ONE COULD EVER TELL THEMSELF. HUMAN OR OTHERWISE.

It would appear it's a little deeper than that. Yes, he was revealing the condition of the heart.... BUT if he changed the condition of his heart, he would live. That's what Jesus said.

Why didn't you include the lawyer's answer in your post? Here it is :

25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

26 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

28 And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

If you "love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself" then you are on the path to Jesus. Not to Mohammed, or Buddha, or Scientology, or Urantia. It's simple.

Jesus was never a Christian. His followers were. Christian means follower of Christ. And Jesus followed his Father. And yes Jesus did teach his followers to pray to Almighty God and not to him. We are to pray to God in Jesus name. So if people followed that command Jesus wouldn’t be idolized. He never said to pray to him. Jesus not God. He is God’s son.

That was the answer, who can say they do that? It was a brilliant answer actually, and makes need that we need to beg Christ for mercy and attend the sacraments and pray often because the above is probably impossible without grace.

John 17:

it is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High

John 1:12-13
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 11:52
and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.

Romans 8:12
So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh— for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

and there are so many more....... we are become sons of God through our belief/faith (connection) to the Father. Yahshua showed us the Way to do this.

Re: Did Jesus lie to the scribe?
OP is just another downright blasphemers and had spoken evil about Lord Jesus.

And behold, a certain expert in the law rose up, testing him and saying, “Teacher, what must I do to possess eternal life?”

But he said to him: “What is written in the law? How do you read it?”

In response, he said: “You shall love the Lord your God from your whole heart, and from your whole soul, and from all your strength, and from all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”

And he said to him: “You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live.”

But since he wanted to justify himself, he said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

Then Jesus, taking this up, said: “A certain man descended from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he happened upon robbers, who now also plundered him. And inflicting him with wounds, they went away, leaving him behind, half-alive.

And it happened that a certain priest was descending along the same way. And seeing him, he passed by.

And similarly a Levite, when he was near the place, also saw him, and he passed by.

But a certain Samaritan, being on a journey, came near him. And seeing him, he was moved by mercy.

And approaching him, he bound up his wounds, pouring oil and wine on them. And setting him on his pack animal, he brought him to an inn, and he took care of him.

And the next day, he took out two denarii, and he gave them to the proprietor, and he said: ‘Take care of him. And whatever extra you will have spent, I will repay to you at my return.’

Which of these three, does it seem to you, was a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?”

Then he said, “The one who acted with mercy toward him.” And Jesus said to him, “Go, and act similarly.” - Luke 10:25-37

TEN COMMITMENTS
You shall know that you have taken the path to God, and you shall know that you have found God, for there will be these signs, these indications, these changes in you:

1. You shall love God with all your heart, all your mind, all your soul. And there shall be no other God set before Me. No longer will you worship human love, or success, money, or power, nor any symbol thereof. You will set aside these things as a child sets aside toys. Not because they are unworthy, but because you have outgrown them. - Conversations With God, Vol 1 - Free for all online

And one of them, a doctor of the law, questioned him, to test him:

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?”

Jesus said to him: “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God from all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

This is the greatest and first commandment.

But the second is similar to it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’

On these two commandments the entire law depends, and also the prophets.” - Matthew 22:35-40
