Midichlorians don't even exit. But if you want to get into metaphors, then the dark side from the original trilogy (before prequels ruined it) represents deviating from Godliness and giving into temptation. In that sense, there very much is a dark side, and it's taken over all of mainstream culture. Glad I read all the way down before I posted the same thing as your first paragraph. Not a Star Wars expert, but I know there is no light without darkness and no darkness without light. More deplorable all the time. |

Not a Star Wars expert, but I know there is no light without darkness and no darkness without light. Trust exists without its opposite. When we are young, we are naturally trusting until people betray us. The question is, if people view betrayal as useful for creating loyalty at the expense of trusting anyone ever again, are those people worthy of it? |

Not a Star Wars expert, but I know there is no light without darkness and no darkness without light. That is the most powerful lesson in Return. Without Luke, Anakin could not resist the temptation of the dark side. The arguments against it are subtle, and he did not have an example someone who fell to use as a warning. Without Vader, Luke would have fallen to the dark side for the same reasons. It was only seeing what his father had become that allowed him to resist the temptation. Together, they both brought each other to the light side. In that sense, Vader is one of the greatest tragic characters in the history of storytelling, right alongside Big Boss. At least, until the prequels completely ruined the concept of the force and the dark side. As far as I'm concerned, the prequels are not canon. From many, covfefe |

Quoting: Eilonwy I do believe in Chi, and I don't think there is any Chi bonus given if you are evil. Let's say you have a cat, and that cat likes to go outside and torture the little animals in the yard. You could say that was kind of evil. I don't think the universe grants him any extra bonus chi for being evil. I don't think kitty draws on "dark chi" to do his bad thing. I think he pulls from the same reservoir of chi that any house cat, good or evil, pulls from. The worms in his stomach draw on the same chi reservoir. And someday when kitty gets eaten by a hawk, that hawk will be drawing on the same reservoir of chi. When kitty no longer returns to the kind elderly owner, the owner might morn his loss and draw on the same chi reservoir. Why do all of you have to be this way about everything all the damn time? LOL! sorry, If You Insist! What I haven't said is that I think the lie of it is to get kids to think that there is some sort of bonus chi for being evil. I don't think there is such a thing. As I've said, I think basic life energy pulls through every living thing until it dies. I think bad people might promise others that there is some sort of bonus to being evil, tempting the impressionable to be their minions. And it is a false promise. “A grower of turnips or shaper of clay, a commot Farmer or a king--every man is a hero if he strives more for others than for himself alone.” Lloyd Alexander, The Castle of Llyr |

And think that the whole idea might be dreamt up to inspire people to think that if they "give in to the dark side" they will "get stronger!". That is setting up the easily-led for minion-hood to baddies.
