Good Science Fiction
I loved to read something they called speculative science fiction.

It would focus on what the writer believed to be a possible outcome of pursuing some new technology.

I suppose there is some, but I don't see any science fiction that deals with specifically might be happening now or soon.

The story is in our faces every day.

The Story

A world leader wants to create a genetically targeted disease to kill off whole sectors of the economy or population, as he chooses.

The problem he finds is that the genetic bio-weapon needs to be injected directly in the bloodstream. It would be too obvious if he just injected and killed people. He needs to habituate people to showing up for injections every time he orders them to, and he needs lots of placebos for the people he isn't trying to kill.

The program needs to be implemented slowly, and the other systems need to be tested.

He needs to have doctors and nurses who can't be counted on to follow orders and cover up deaths, so he needs to run them through a few rounds of seemingly random deaths.

He also needs to test the media and streamline their lies, as he removes anyone among them who won't follow orders and cover up the truth.

He needs to condition the people to dismiss rumors and conspiracy theories.

When he finds he has the system running smoothly and everybody accepting "the new normal", he will be ready for the killshot.

People will wait in line for the killshot and be hauled away in dump-trucks. Rumors that blacks are all dying, or Mexicans, or Christians, or whoever the president wants to kill, are all dying will be dismissed as conspiracy theory, because people have been dismissing such things as conspiracy theories for years.

A diabolical world leader would be sure to implement his kill shot under a president who is perceived as incompetent, so almost every move could be dismissed as just part of the general confusion. A president no one perceives as a threat.

The important thing about speculative science fiction is that it should seem at least possible.

It should offer a speculation about what might be going on.

But I just wonder: once we are made to accept that a politician can order everyone to get shots, when does the evil politician come along to do what we can always count on evil people to do.

For people who think Trump hates Mexicans, what happens if he is re-elected and he is in a position to order everyone to get booster shots, ensuring that Mexicans get the bio-weapon.

Is it impossible, or is it just being made possible?

What a perfect weapon for a dictator!

Re: Good Science Fiction
I wish a good science fiction writer would write that story.

What do you bet he couldn't publish it?

Never heard of it.

I stopped reading science fiction when I was a teenager. Not because I didn't like it, but college was making too many demands of me. (I'm a slow reader.) After college, survival was making too many demands.

It looks very relevant.

Searches on Amazon come up as The Golden Age.

It's an interesting choice of a term for the series, "an ancient Greek term for the known, the inhabited, or the habitable world."

Yeah, it looks good and it seems to speculate about emerging class distinctions.
