Making Phone Calls to the Departed
"Making phone calls to the departed - CBS News" [link to www.cbsnews.com (secure)] ...

"I don't think I got, really got, how many people would really … really needed something like this," he said.

For weeks that phone was there, and few knew, but then word quietly spread. Soon, complete strangers were braving the Northwest rain, making the longest of long-distance calls.

Lori Provoe was one of them: "'When you're grieving, you look for any avenue to try to connect that you can, to make that emotional connection. And that's what the telephone, I thought, would do for me."

Cowan asked, "And did it?"

"It did.

Very touching! So glad they have found a way to reach out to their passed loved ones without feeling like they are commiting some sort of sin.

But, we Catholics know that one doesn't need a telephone. ;)

Re: Making Phone Calls to the Departed
The bible rebukes such nonsense.

Psalms 146:4 - His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish

Ecclesiastes 9:5-6 - For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.

Job 14:12 - So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

The dead are asleep. In a thoughtless, dreamless state.

Until the resurrection.

You are here ---> 1 Timothy 4:1 - "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Witchcraft.

So, let me get this straight, bc I'm not getting your point. Do you believe that no one is in Heaven yet?

Enoch, Elijah, Moses and when Christ resurrected, scripture says a few people were also raised when He was, and they went and preached in Jerusalem. Did they go to heaven when Christ went? Scripture doesnt say.
Revelation 4:10 speaks of 24 elders in heaven. If those are the ones Christ raised, scripture doesnt say. But its logical.

That would make 27 recorded humans in heaven. (or 24 if the first 3 are in that number)

99.99999999999999999% of anyone who ever died is asleep in the grave. Until the resurrection.

John 11:11 - Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

The dead are asleep. In a dreamless, thoughtless state. Per scripture.
