I need to learn how to defend myself. What is a good way to learn?

You need to know WHEN to use it. Learn rules of engagement so you'll automatically point and shoot when you need to, but won't shoot innocents. It's more difficult to learn that than "how" to shoot.

A big barrier to self-defense is knowing that there will be legal consequences for eliminating the problem regardless of who's at fault. These factors need to be understood so that you'll just react rather than think. Thugs are low-inhibition and they won't hesitate.

These moves have saved my life (more than once). I grew up in a ghetto. They especially work on molesters (who I seem 2 attract). How you walk - helps deflects that first attempt

Study Krav Maga from someone certified by the IDF. There is no better and quicker self-defense program available.

I have been training MMA and other styles since 2009. I would second the person that mentioned Krav Maga. Problem is finding a legit instructor. IDF instructor would be best. There are a lot of posers.

Unless you are in a tiny town that only has a Jiu Jitsu gym and nothing else, I wouldn’t recommend it. I actually have some gold medals from Jitz competition. Jitz is ok until a 2nd person shows up. Also, generally Jitz gyms only teach groundfighting and that being on your back is fine. I disagree. A mediocre wrestler can put some serious hurt on an accomplished Jitz player due to this. Anyway….

Firearms are ok, but I think the better sense of personal security and confidence is gained through martial arts training. I like Muay Thai, Krav Maga, Judo, MMA, Boxing and Jiu Jitsu in that order. Keep in mind the only item on that list that is not sport fighting is Krav, so choose wisely if you have all those options available.

Seriously though, buy a shotgun at least a .410 but preferably a .12 gauge. Get some OO Buckshot for ammo, this is your home defense.

For your person get at least a 9mm, if you can handle a .40 go big.
