I have recently been involved quite a bit with hospitals and LTC homes on a personal basis (concerning my beloved gf). I am disappointed and disillusioned at having seen a disturbing number of examples displaying how modern medicine is driven by commerce, as opposed to compassion.
There are many, many health workers who are wonderful people and do a great job in their work. I believe it is predominantly at the higher echelons that the greed, combined with an over-riding thirst for power and accolades becomes a problem. Most hospitals used to be run by actual medical professional people- now it's bean-counters and MBA managerial types.
Sad state of affairs...fortunately I am older and hopefully won't be around to see the ultimate outcome of this dereliction of sacred duty.
