It’s no news to anyone that the Russian military is losing in Ukraine. In almost 10 months of war, the Russian military hasn’t achieved any of its primary objectives, despite revising them halfway through the war.

Only a few months ago, Russian leadership had a very poor picture of the situation on the ground. Russian President Vladimir Putin was fed poor intelligence by his defense and intelligence advisers. However, now that seems to be changing, according to the U.S. Intelligence Community.

UK says attacks on Russian bomber bases could be 'most strategically significant' force protection failure of the Ukraine war

Russian air bases have faced deadly drone attacks thought to be carried out by Ukraine.

The UK Defense Ministry said these attacks could mark the worst force protection failures of the war.

The attacks occurred hundreds of miles into Russia territory, far from the front lines.



Drone attacks on Russian air bases — far from the front lines in the Ukraine war — could be viewed by Moscow as the most glaring force protection failure since the invasion of Ukraine was launched in late February, the British Ministry of Defense said.

"The causes of the explosions have not been confirmed. However, if Russia assesses the incidents were deliberate attacks, it will probably consider them as some of the most strategically significant failures of force protection since its invasion of Ukraine," the British defense ministry said Tuesday, adding that "the Russian chain of command will probably seek to identify and impose severe sanctions on Russian officers deemed responsible for allowing the incident."

Belarus to move troops, equipment amid Ukrainian fears of attack

Belarus plans to move military equipment and forces in a “counterterrorism” exercise, the state news agency BelTA has reported, amid fears that Russia could attack Ukraine from the Belarusian border.


“During this period, it is planned to move military equipment and personnel of the national security forces,” the state news agency BelTA cited Belarus’s Security Council as saying.

“The movement of citizens [transport] along certain public roads and areas will be restricted and the use of imitation weapons for training purposes is planned.”

The forces are planned to move on Wednesday and Thursday, but there was no information on which regions would be affected or what form the exercise would take.


For nine months, Belarus has stayed away from direct involvement in the war in Ukraine, but in the past President Alexander Lukashenko has ordered troops to deploy with Russian forces near the Ukrainian border, citing threats to Belarus from Kyiv and the West.

Russian Ex-Commander Blasts War Campaign: 'Ukraine Will Only Fight Harder'

Aformer Russian commander and prominent military blogger has given his first-hand account of the shortcomings of his country's forces in Ukraine in which he decried their "apathy."

Igor Girkin, whose nom de guerre is Igor Strelkov, is a Russian army veteran and former intelligence officer who played a key role in Russia's annexation of Crimea and in the conflict in the eastern Donbas region that began in 2014. He served as commander of the separatist-backed forces at the time.

In November, he was sentenced in absentia by the Hague to life in prison for his role in shooting down Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 in 2014, which killed 298 passengers. The commercial plane had departed from Amsterdam and was bound for Kuala Lumpur when it was shot down over eastern Ukraine on July 17, 2014, amid fighting between pro-Russian separatists and Ukrainian forces.

Girkin has been posting unvarnished accounts of Moscow's military failures in Ukraine on his T_legram social media account. In October, he announced he was joining the Russian army's effort in Ukraine but has since returned to Moscow and on Tuesday posted about his experience.

He wrote that he had made a number of unsuccessful efforts to join various units, before finally joining a Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) battalion illegally in which he was deployed to the Svatove area in the Luhansk region. Newsweek could not verify this.

He described how Russian troops displayed "inertia" as they faced the "deepest crisis of strategic planning." He said that they do not have "the slightest idea about the ultimate strategic goals of the current military campaign."

Been tracking an interesting flight today.

Aircraft took off from Moscow Sheremetyevo International Airport. Its currently slipping in and out of ADS coverage over NE China.

The only operators it could likely be is Belarus, Russian Air Force or North Korea according to this wiki article:

It's not showing up on adsbexchange and I've only been able to track it on flightradar24. Last time I saw it, the continuation of its path takes it to Pyongyang.

I've taken a couple of screen caps earlier in the flight but hope it pops back in before it lands.

Its currently airborne but out of ADSB coverage.

Sounds like it is heading to NK maybe.
