I was once at an outlet store on Black Friday and some Asian Ladies were filling grocery carts with hand bags and leaving the store with them, cart after cart. I'm sure those bags didn't end up in THIS COUNTRY.

I think it is important, going forward, for producers to sell things to people for use internal to their own countries. Before exporting. (this goes for houses and properties and even for entire businesses)

And, as buyers, we should, as never before, be buying from our own countries.

Vote with your wallet for nationalism vs globalism.

What if they held a one world government and nobody played along?

I can't help but wonder how lazy and stupid the people are on the other end that fail to realize they could just go to the store for these items.
 Quoting: Shadow_Rider_06

That makes me think of how certain Americans travel to parts of Mexico like Tijuana for dental or medical care because it's cheaper there than it is in the US.

In a way, decades of a "bougie" way of thinking and lifestyle - where there's more demand than supply - have helped ramp up inflation in the US.

But if anyone sees what Mexico is like in order to become a "low-cost leader," the value really isn't worth the savings.

Mexico, incidentally, has been dominated by its political left - its PRI is similar to the US's DNC - for over 90 years. So America may become increasingly similar to Mexico in upcoming decades.

We (America) actually used to process stuff to export it.. Now they don't even process here.. Now just load (plunder) unprocessed trees (raw materials) and ship it direct to Chinese consumers. All why Americans are forced to pay outrageous prices for the left over scraps..

But don't get misled: most of Mexico is not like the US border towns such as Tijuana and Juarez. They're only semi-Mexican and their business is the border.

When we used to visit Mexico we never stopped at border towns, always drove an hour or two into the country.

No, it doesn't surprise me at all.

There is a large national retailer that had electric throw blankets on sale this month. I mean it was a really great price! They sold out in stores and online almost immediately.

This large retailer usually orders unique colors and patterns for seasons, so it's fairly obvious what's happening. People are buying them all up immediately and selling for double.

I'm seeing those same blankets showing up on Ebay and Walmart Marketplace for much higher prices. It's not just one or two blankets. Most of the sellers have all of the same colors and patterns in stock. One seller shows 308 blankets sold (at almost double the original sales price) and they still have stock to sell.

Is the problem for the glut at the ports that every store ordered like 15% more merchandise because of last year's run on things?

I was in the Wal-Mart next town over from us the other day.....ONE ENTIRE ROW of frozen section was roped off....EMPTY!

No frozen veggies and whatever else goes in that section. The freezers looked like they were operational - I didn't open the doors and check to see if they were....they had yellow tape - like police tape? Across the front of the doors, indicating they didn't want you to open them.

Even the next aisle over, frozen foods was NOT overflowing with stuff. You would think they would be, to make up for being one aisle down to display product. NOPE. And NO frozen veggies in there, either!

I commented (rather loudly) "Where's all the FOOD?!?!?" thinking I could get someone else to come take a look, or explain (if it's their store and they shop there a lot, they might know). Only one woman was close enough to hear me, but she never looked up or acknowledged me or looked over at the aisle I was in!!! Kept her head down, like the cookies she was scrutinizing in the center aisle were SOOO much more interesting!

Wilson is right. I have a friend here in FL who has ALL her dental work done in Mexico. It's actually CHEAPER for her to fly to AZ and drive across the border to a dental clinic there and have her work done than to have a dentist here do it.

I think the take away for me was.. And you're totally correct to a point, or I should say level.. However it seems to me.. Large multinational corporations raiding other large multinational corporations to keep their own shelves stocked is unprecedented.. It also would suggest that our current supply chain problem (disaster) is in even worse shape than the public believes..

You'd think longshoreman on the east and west coasts refusing to work and unload cargo ships while at the same time threating to kill any scabs or port authority personnel who'd dare too attempt to stop them, would be a major news story~?

Other than long time smaller suppliers going out of business because larger suppliers got the goods before they did, and the larger suppliers we've had no choice but to contract with have far, far, inferior products.

As a consumer I've noticed something really annoying:
I go online to order and check the companies inventory on a list of items. Go to checkout to place the order, all of a sudden they are suddenly OUT OF STOCK, on all items, when minutes before they had a large inventory.

Can sort of understand the popular ones, and it's online, but obscure items too? In minutes? When inventory checked was large.

I have done shopping carts and have too coded backdoors to cut the average or some other attribute consumer out in favor of holding inventory for more favorly-attributed buyers - the trigger being a large order by a small consumer.

There are benefits to visiting Mexico for medical and dental - sometimes. YMMV. They also have a far more relaxed attitude regarding purchasing of sexual fulfillment, even though they're a Catholic country. I'm not sure about their attitude regarding drugs - especially the less common ones. I'm sure the US customs would take a dim view of bringing them to the states.

Re: My Wives National Company Is Limiting Purchase Quantities.. The Reason Might Just Surprise You.
I deliver things from national department store chains. It is not uncommon to get an entire carload of goods going to a small warehouse. I looked up the warehouses and they advertise services for online arbitrage shipping.

I go to a house in a nice neighborhood that looks like it belongs on the movie Animal House. The windows are out of it. The curtains are superhero towel and what not. That guy orders stuff form department stores all day and night and ships from there. The neighbors have to be furious.

I've thought about doing it for money myself, but then I think of what an incredibly stupid business model it is. It might be profitable for now, but like this post is stating, retailers are going to catch on.

I can't help but wonder how lazy and stupid the people are on the other end that fail to realize they could just go to the store for these items.
 Quoting: Shadow_Rider_06

If someone is in a remote area they can’t just go to the store, or if the item is hard to find. I think people order this way on accident sometimes too. If you go to Walmart.com they will show you their own stuff plus other vendors and you have to actively filter it back to just Walmart.

I can see how someone who is sick or housebound might prefer to order something they really need with free 2-day shipping for a few dollars more.
 Quoting: Arkansassy

This is way to much stuff for that type of thing. What you're describing wouldn't account for as much as what's going on here.

There are warehouses full of merchandise that came from small time operators buying carloads of merchandise and bringing it there to hold until that warehouse ships it. If you google "FBA prep center" and things related to industry, it's pretty big.

Ah well, what the hell do I know? Maybe paying to much for second hand Chinese crap is the wave of the future.

Well I think many of the price hikes are based on pure greed. The greed is creating the price hikes and the inflation.

Meat for instance; Millennials and Gen XYZers have to have "Artisan" everything. They have to pay more for everything to feel special.

You can get a 12 oz Latte at most places for 4.75. Fancy overpriced coffee shop owned by a rich rock star. 6.50, and they want your phone number. Plus a dollar tip? No fuckin way, I've had it.

I truly believe this is why you are seeing hikes in meat. All the new "artisan meat" companies, all the steakhouses that charge 75 bucks for a porterhouse. Eventually the price was bound to go up just based on gentrification.

I'm not going to say where, but the price of bacon has NOT gone up. It did go up on the LOW end, the cheap bacon that was 2.99 is now 4.50. I believe that is pure greed based on literally nothing but watching other people charge more.

You charge more, I'm going to charge more, and so it continues. Greed is contagious.
 Quoting: Feathery

Food gentrification? Oh, come on now. The reason for the price inflation is obvious. We printed trillions of dollars to mostly bail out mid to large companies with some scraps for the proletariat thrown in, then repeated it 3 times. The more money there is, the less it's worth. The less the currency is worth, the higher the prices. To make matters worse, Bonehead Biden stopped the pipeline construction and suspended oil and gas field leasing causing fuel prices to nearly double and those additional transportation costs get passed directly down to the consumer.
