Who cares what name you call someone after you murder/kill them. It is the act of killing them that matters.

It shows the hate crime motive.

If a man shoots a woman in an altercation with many facets and then calls her a c-nt or crazy b!tch as she lays dying, it doesn't mean he shot her because she was a woman. Maybe he would have shot another man in the same situation.

They chased him down in a pickup with a confederate flag on the front. They told the police that their emergency was a black man running down the street.

As to your example, I would assume that the man is a coward as are all that have to carry guns to feel safe.

I just think all murders without some mitigating circumstances should be treated the same- life without parole or the death penalty- whether someone is murdered because someone didn't like their race, a woman is killed in commission of a sex crime, someone is killed in a robbery, for insurance money, over jealousy, etc.

If someone was breaking into my neighbors hokez I wouldn't go and try and apprehend them. You simply call the police. What's so hard to grasp about this???

IMO, the jury convicted the son with malice murder because he had a 'malignant heart', not because he killed from a malignant heart. The kill was from having the gun wrestled away from him, which is self-preservation. It is as far away from malice murder as you can get. The chase may have been malice (but not even that was proven beyond reasonable doubt given Arbery's trespass and encounters with him) but the killing was not; the killing was the tussle for control of a gun. Maybe he hated black people, but it does not necessarily equate with the act of the killing.

As someone who hates human kind, it is nice knowing that will be used against me in the courts.

The jury also convicted cameraman of felony murder because they determined he participated in a felony, whether or not it is logical that he was in some way responsible for Arbery tackling the gun from a guy he didn't know had one.

I am not a fan of this 'everyone is responsible for the murder' thing if they all participate in the same crime. I brought it up elsewhere. It doesn't matter if its a black person aiding another black person in a store robbery, unless they had some kind of foreknowledge or assisted in a cover up I think the law is pretty harsh. But not only did they not have that with the camera guy, the camera guy had no idea the other two were packing weapons.

IMO, this is about the worst example of this type of sentence I've ever heard of. And if black people ask me to be sympathetic if a black person gets in this position in the future, remind me. You KNOW NPR will do this at asome point in the future.

If he had allowed Arbery to get in the car, rescuing Arbery and driving him to safety, he would not be in prison facing a life sentence. If his purpose in leaving his porch that day would have been to rescue a young man running and being chased by two men rather than to join in the hunt and chase, he would not be in prison facing a life sentence.
