How many people can this planet support?
I'm not asking this because I want to turn it into some kinda political thing.

I'm asking because I'm 68 years old, I been from the Arctic Circle to the equator, and I've seen first hand the effect we've had on this planet. And each other.

Every job I've ever had has fucked up the planet in some way.

Construction, oil exploration, commercial fishing; my first job out of high school was a carpenter's helper, building a development in New Jersey that looks like a ghetto now.

I'm not a whatdayacallit.

A left wing nutjob.

I voted for Trump. Whatever that means.

I'm just a guy who's been around and seen what we do.

Re: How many people can this planet support?
WAY above what they tell you.

We throw away MILLIONS of pounds of food every year, and that is the US alone.

60% of the planet is unpopulated, but has 7.8 billion ppl.

20 billion tops I think is reasonable without these traitors to humanity trying to cut us in half for profit.

Before oil was in wide spread use, the world could feed between a half a billion to a billion in population...and that's where it stayed for thousands of years.

Food supply wouldn't allow a population larger than a billion (without oil).

Re: How many people can this planet support?
I think that consumerism is the main problem. A consumerist society is inherently wasteful and destructive.

If we focused on building TV's that last one hundred years and computers that don't break...

We wouldn't be anywhere near as destructive as we are.

I have seen the 'too many population' graphs and they always talk about how our recent footprints have gotten way bigger, but the fact is that people are just more wasteful.

Clothing develops a hole, and most people will throw it away. I say this, but I think it's better in the US than it used to be.

The environmental footprint of owning twenty teslas for the average persons lifespan is a hundred times worse than me driving my ten year old car that still runs great.

With today's supply lines and at this rate of mining resources and depleting other species habitats? How long can today's lifestyle go on?

Think about the amount of trash your household generates in one month, and multiply that by a few billions.

Dunno.

First off i think 8billion is a lie,i think its 800million.
Next i think 500million is probably about the right number.
That before the latest resources report.theres some serious freight trains coming that are gonna hit us hard if we dont step up.
Crude oil is number one.
Aluminum is number two.
Gold is number three.
Iron is number four.
Nickel is number five.
Lead is number six.coal is number seven but really only to china.

If we have a world war.think of the iron that sinks.its massive.
We cant afford to sink anymore iron.
We cant afford to waste anymore metals.
Better to build lead acid batteries than bullets.
China thinks it can outfuck its situation.the days of acting like rabbits is over!
Same with all these 3rd world shitholes of religitards.goddamn catholics brought alot of this on us and the pope should be bitch slapped for it.look at puerto rico, wtf!
I emailed their governor and told him to legalize pot,he did and now theres 7 old people to every young person.yet asia cant seem to figure this shit out.wants to kill potheads and fuck like rabbits.
Goddamn religitards!

I THINK THE NUMBER IS BULLSHIT FOR STARTERS.

AND IF YOU HAVE EVER REALLY TRAVELLED, EXTENSIVELY, YOU KNOW THAT THE DENSELY OCCUPIED SPACES ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. THERE'S A FUCK TON MORE SPACE THAN THERE WILL EVER BE PEOPLE TO FUCK IT UP.

NOT THAT WE COULDN'T STAND SOME CHANGES IN HOW WE OPERATE FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE PLACES WHERE WE'RE ALL OVER EACH OTHER.

The world population should be about 6 billion. It's over populated, I am G-d. I will show you this by looking at your user name a showing you imagines of other planets similar to this one. I am the father of Earth and Jesus. It's the center because there is a lot of incest here now. Aliens look at the incest and think it always nice and pleasant, as in a insured life. I can fix it but I lack the motive, frankly if 1.5 billion died for raping Earth I would not blink an eye. Look here for hope. *** *** *

Add up all the world's arable soil and decide it by the number of people existing today . It's pretty damned depressing to contemplate .
Each person requires x amount of acres a year to produce the food and other natural resources needed just to survive .
Believe it or not all of the information necessary to run the computation is available if your so inclined to run it out .

Exactly...

In many cities, they run the streetlights all fucking day long because the photosensors are fucked.

Those 1000 watt high pressure sodium bulbs cost like 50 bucks EACH to run 24/7.

It's just one small example of the waste.
