My play : Invest in farm or timber land. In our area, there is very little property tax on either. Now ,find a piece of ground that the owner will carry the note. You need a 10-20 % down . I would sell the gold for the down payment. If you can't swing the payments I would hold the gold. Gold might drop but it will come back.No investment just goes up. You're welcome.

I continue with the wizardly wisdom : Leverage is key. Buy land that has water,power,roads. Most people move up here and have no clue as to how $$$$ that will be. Is it in timber ? If it's for sale around here it is usually logged : NO THANK YOU ! When they log here it can be that there are a few jack pines and cottonwood left.

general rule of thumb ... a year's supply of food, water, fuel - an alternate power source, $10K in "junk silver" coins - $10K in gold to get you through a National crisis
(assuming you already own a home in a rural area) and a reliable vehicle.

So first of all, you shouldn't be asking people on GLP for financial advice. Just wanna say that right off.

Second, know going into it that it's hard to sell physical gold. They charge huge premiums for it, and they lowball you when you go to sell it. So if you're expecting to get spot price, or anywhere near it, proly not gonna happen.

As for whether gold is going down or not, that's anyone's guess. If the market corrects gold in the short term, historically speaking, would be expected to correct with it. That said, gold prices usually correct less and recover faster, so there's a certain logic in the argument that it's something to hodl.

Were it mine, and I didn't have anything better to do with the money, I would keep it. If I had GLD, or maybe even mining stocks, I would probably sell those and either buy physical or bonds or something. I think regardless of anything market wise, there's a certain logic to having physical gold and silver on hand just in case, along with cash. Like a SHTF fund (in the context of which, lead is also a precious metal lol).
