Beautiful area, use to be the less visited side of the Sierra Nevada.
Mammoth Hot Springs is bit off of 395, and a short drive down a dirt road.
It wasn’t a secret, but pretty much was the domain of people in the know.
A mix of mountain folk, hippies, hikers, and in the winter apres-skiers.
The government finally decided to improve the site because of its increasing popularity, and due to the ADA actually did a beautiful job with the facilities and access for all. Of coarse Mother Nature had her own plans, and a short while after it’s completion, the plumbing shifted. Now it’s fenced off, and enter at your own risk. Last year was the first time I’d seen a large group of people in the water again, obviously in a pool where they weren’t going to be scalded or gassed to death.
Good times, good times…
Enjoy it now, because they didn’t think Mt St Helen’s was going to blow either.
Also, if it does, there goes the City of Los Angeles’ water supply.
