If the VP office becomes vacant, the President can nominate a new VP, subject to Congressional approval. However, Joe should consider carefully, because the VP is first in line. He doesn't necessarily have to nominate anyone, but that leaves the Speaker as successor, which, in current year, could be just as dangerous to his health as a Clinton VP. His best bet would be to nominate someone who is relatively harmless, and whom nobody would want to be President. |
