So far the only thing I have heard, is that he claims the gun did it itself. "I didn't pull the trigger."

Even if he weren't lying it doesn't absolve him of not checking the firearm when it was handed to him and pointing it at targets he didn't intend to maim or kill.

How ever the trigger got pulled, the hammer would have to have been deliberately cocked beforehand. It was a single action revolver. If the gun was not cocked, it could not be fired.

If you don't know what that means, let's break it down...

SINGLE ACTION revolvers require the user to physically cock the hammer back, then squeeze the trigger. IT WILL NOT FIRE by just pulling the trigger or fire on it's own.

old time SA revolvers could fire accidentally if
the chamber under the hammer is loaded
and a sharp blow to the hammer
or dropped enough to create hammer inertia.
