Hi OP I hope you can solve your problem.

Maybe this would help?

Cedarcide

I ran across this product line and informational web site a few years ago when I was doing a lot of research on essential oils.

There are a lot of articles there and a lot of options for types of spray applications.

Might be worth looking into, they had a lot of good testimonials if I remember.

Re: SEEKING A LITTLE ADVICE FROM FARMERS or other - Yard Flea Eradication
when I lived in the country (5 acres) my dogs NEVER had a flea, moved to town 6 months ago and I'm constantly fighting fleas...considering treating my yard too. DE is only good until it gets wet (and it takes days to kill) and don't put it anywhere near finished wood (it will take the finish right off, learned that the hard way on a log home)
 Quoting: Serepta Ann

I missed your post earlier today. Are you kidding about DE taking the finish off wood?! Micro abrasion from the silica with weather? What in the world would cause DE to remove finish from wood?

Well, DE is covering my wood floors that have an almost 90 year old finish. They've survived a lot; let's see if DE is what finally takes 'em out. Ha!
 Quoting: TXP

yes, I'm serious and so was my hubs when he wasn't very happy with me. It is like micro sandpaper, I sprinkled it all around the base of the house and some of it got on the logs and it took the finish off and had to be repainted (I also got a tiny bit on a table (don't brush it off) and it took the finish off that too. I am now VERY careful where I use it (that's also why they say to wear a mask when using it, it will cause havoc on your lungs if you breathe it. I know I"m going to get some poo pooing on that, but the warning are there for a reason)

You're all making this too complicated. Simple quart of permethrin with built in garden hose attachment (Bonide Mosquito Beater $14.99 on you know who). It is one of the mildest for pets but most effective flea killers. My wife and dog are chemically sensitive, never a problem with this and no fleas despite vet saying this is a very bad year for them. Spray around the base of your house and spray the whole yard to keep all insects out. We never use anything inside our house at all. Let it thoroughly dry before allowing pets out. You will likely need to repeat every 2 weeks until gone with such an infestation. Borax powder inside (Roach Prufe) or you can initially also use permethrin inside too if need more.

With fleas Imo, it's a scorched earth policy.

You aren't going to get them out of the house without treating the inside dogs and cats. If you do use a method that works they will just jump on the dogs and cats and furniture and you, then re-infest the house.

Treat the yard before the house and they will come inside.

I'd get the flea and tick pills for the dogs and cats and bomb the inside with a few good flea foggers (follow the safety instructions on the foggers). Vacuum and vacuum and vacuum every nook and corner and cranny.

Then use something like this (Spectracide Triazicide Insect Killer For Lawns & Landscapes Concentrate (follow the safety instructions on the foggers), hooks to a regular garden hose spray away from the house, Re-treat in a couple of weeks.

After that keep the dogs and cats treated, the fleas don't have a reason to be there if the dogs and cats are treated with the flea pills. If you are uncertain about the safety of the flea pills, live with fleas as far as my experience goes.

In any case, DON"T USE SERESTO FLEA PRODUCTS:

[link to www.cbsnews.com (secure)]

Members of Congress are demanding one of the largest single product recalls in U.S. history after a top-selling flea and tick collar was linked to the deaths of nearly 1,700 pets and hundreds of injuries to humans.

"When we put the collar on, everything changed and was like a switch just flipped," Alex Jaeger said.

Alex Jaeger and his mother, Eleanor, say two months after they put a Seresto collar on their golden retriever Blake, he developed seizures. They say their veterinarian gave Blake epilepsy medication, but the dog has never been the same.

 Quoting: beeches

Yes, I read about that. My dog can't handle Pyrenthrin which is in most of the flea medicines. I'm monitoring my dog for any changes. So far she is good and the collar works for fleas...

1700 deaths are a lot and many instances were caused by the pet EATING the collar. No pharmaceutical insecticide is truly safe. There is always risk and that's why it's best to monitor for side effects...

Re: SEEKING A LITTLE ADVICE FROM FARMERS or other - Yard Flea Eradication
And be aware of the flea's life cycle, which is about 3 months long from egg to larvae to flea.

Make sure you use a QUALITY flea prevention for AT LEAST 3 MONTHS on your dogs and pets while you are treating the yard. The real ones you buy from the vets office work different ways. Some sterilize the fleas, and some poison the fleas nervous system from one bite and then when the dead fleas drop off the pet, the larvae eat the dead flea carcases and also die from the poison.

I used to work at an animal hospital, so I've heard the sales reps explain their products a bunch of times.

There is a spray one can buy to spray your carpets and couches, as the fleas drop their eggs anywhere. If the dogs sleep with you in bed, they are dropping flea eggs in bed.
 Quoting: Bleached1111

Thanks for your input. As stated in a previous post, my dogs are treated monthly for fleas and heartworm using Advantage Multi, which for six years while living in the same location has worked well, and not only for fleas but also to help with one dog's genetic inability to fight off demodex mites. Interestingly, the active ingredient to treat heartworm is ivermectin. I also use sulphur powder on her for the mites, which was far more effective than the med she was prescribed for the condition. Horrible med that made the condition worse.

But, yes, the dogs are always treated on a monthly schedule. This situation, however, is a serious yard infestation and not just a few yard fleas, which is also a little surprising because I have the lawn mowed and maintained twice a month, too. Though, I do have a significant change in water runoff from a neighboring property this year, and I think that's the contributing factor.

Thanks for your post!

Re: SEEKING A LITTLE ADVICE FROM FARMERS or other - Yard Flea Eradication
An old-time way to keep ticks, fleas and chiggers out of the yard was to partially fill an old, worn pillowcase with sulfur powder, the kind you get at the farm store in the fertilizer section. Tie a rope around the mouth of the pillowcase and drag it up and down the yard a few times. The bugs hate sulfur and will leave posthaste.

Another old trick is to dust sulfur on shoes, socks and pants cuffs, as this acts as a repellent.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 53679540

I've used sulphur powder on one dog for six years to very successfully treat mites, and I did so following the guidance of old school farmers who did the same with their dogs.

I haven't considered using it in the yard. Thanks for the post! Sulphur will be good to keep in the arsenal for maintenance of the yard after this invasion is tackled with a strategic strike. =)

...wonder what sulphur does to the pH of the soil...

DE does not work on these demon fleas in my house, and I don't have the luxury to test outside. I have to hit them hard, and then use other means to maintain. But DE has not worked in the house or when directly applied to the dogs skin; though, it certainly dries out their skin.

It works great on the five farm cats and dog...

maybe the fleas in dryer areas of the country are different?
 Quoting: beeches

Thanks, Beeches. DE hasn't worked in the house, but the fleas here this year are, well, different from previous years, and I've never experienced this level of invasion despite twice a month lawn maintenance (I have a crew that does the work, so it's pretty regular), despite the hell freeze in Feb, despite monthly flea treatment of dogs. Freakin' 2021 demon fleas. chuckle

Re: SEEKING A LITTLE ADVICE FROM FARMERS or other - Yard Flea Eradication
Jesus I'm dealing with this shit now.
Combed 20 fleas off a 5 lb. dog today.
I don't know where these fuckers came from!
60 days ago we had none that could be seen.
Now the back yard is infested.
Just got rid of a rodent problem where all entrances were sealed and new insulation put down.
Is it possible the rodents are confused looking for ways back in and bringing fleas on their backs?

Get rid of rats, now more fleas is what I'm thinking? Fleas need a new food source? Or were they always on her black fur unseen? I believe I saw what were flea eggs on her 3 months ago, little brown flecks like grains of salt. Maybe they have matured and latched on the last 90 days?

Just moved to this older mid-century in the city build 120 days ago.

Didn't have fleas at any of the suburban houses nor rodents.

Its creeping me out because I'm sure they got in my bed, she slept in my bed in her own bedding.

I just washed all of her bedding and mine and I still am creeped out.

Lot size is 1/8th of an acre max. Neighbor has two dogs that she likely never bathes and her oak tree presents a squirrel infestation in our yard as well. Also have some monkey grass and tall floral plants along the shared fence and a stray fucking cat.

This shit is HELL. My dog is listless after bathing her with the Adamns flea and tick shampoo...going to take her to the vet to get screened for tapeworms.

Jeez...20 ticks is a lot for a tiny dog. I guess I need to pull up my rugs now and walk on the hardwood flooring.

OK, I'm seeking a little insecticide advice to effectively eradicate these little f@ckers, which has become worse this year than any other. I don't live on a farm but on a decent sized property directly on a bayou, so there are water and wildlife elements, and I have dogs running on both sides of the property. I also have dogs, so there are a number of animals.

My entire yard is infested, and I'm interested in how farmers and/or those with large properties treat this issue. And, no, Google sucks now. I want info and not some Amazon-affiliate blog mom writing about flea combing my pets every time they come indoors.

I need to treat the yard, and I want to do it myself because it will need multiple applications and to also be maintained.

I thought I'd reach out to our self-sustainers, rural dwellers and farmers/ranchers or anyone with animals that might share solutions.

What is a cost effective, true results yard insecticide? And what is your go-to method and maintenance schedule? 'Cause these little 'reproducing at a rate to take over the planet' f@ckers are about to make me postal. chuckle

TIA! All productive advice much appreciated.
