I'm in my late fifties and I was at a coffee group meeting a while back and the people [male and female] there were all in their early twenties.

They were all going on about gay rights and boasting about being bi.

This shocked me.

Firstly it wasn't a gay meeting and secondly WHEN DID IT BECOME COOL TO BE GAY?

I thought they were all weird as fuck.

Why are liquor stores and porno shops not allowed to locate next to a school zone? Now ask yourself (and your local school board) why the school has put the virtual porno shop and weed store in the classroom (unrestricted internet?)...

I would say most teenagers are not even mature enough to handle a smart phone. Too many of them use it to send genital pics to their girl friend or boy friend. Unfortunately in some jurisdictions that would be classified as child porn since they are under aged and they could end up in legal trouble. Plus those nudes end up circulating on the internet and among classmates. Then you have bullying going on social media among teens. Once a teen turns 18 you don't have say anymore since they are legally an adult and they can get a smart phone with their own money but I wouldn't be giving a under aged teen a smart phone. Maybe one of those non smart phones that just make calls and text.

So my youngest daughter graduated in 2018. Then only abstinence and stds were taught in health. I never left sexual education up to the school. I had the talk, rather talks with them.

We've had custody of a granddaughter since she was 4. Now she is 13 in middle school. First day of school she was asked what name and pronouns she wanted to use, all the kids were asked.

Well she chose Onyx as her name and is deciding on either he him, or them they!?!?!? Her best friend has changed her name twice already.

I immediately went to talk to the principal. I was told that the students should feel free to express who they were and the school was going to encourage that.

WTF!!! Mind you we live in RUAL ALABAMA. I started having talks with her at age 11 mostly about what to expect when her cycle started and how feelings would be confusing. Never did she express that she felt like a male, or thought of being a male.

She wants me to respect her choices. So far I am refusing to. So do I put the hammer down on her?

Yea that sounds so simple...it's not in our situation. But, thanks for the advice!

Rural Alabama! It would be an atrocity anywhere. You have your work cut out for you. They are messing with these young people's minds at the most impressionable formative ages.
