I remember it was a big deal back in the early days of the pandemic, especially when Cuomo was sending covid patients to nursing homes. The workers said they were not supplied with enough PPE and even if they had some of it, they weren't trained in using it properly as nursing homes aren't ICUs. Cuomo only sent extra body bags with every new covid patient.

There are times when a call for emergency service is made when an arrest is eminent. Chances of successful resuscitation in the presence of well trained advanced pre-hospital providers is higher by a long shot. Five minutes in that scenario is “the” difference based on my experiences.

I remember in that same time frame, watching a video of a news team doing a breaking news story in a supposed 'Covid ward.'

The 'anchorman' was interviewing an 'infectious disease specialist' a few other 'medical personnel,' and a 'covid patient,' all wearing mega PPE. It looked like an end of the world flick.

Another person in the space panned the room with a regular cell phone, and caught some regular Dude (production assistant, I think) just sitting there, arms folded, looking off into the distance. No mask, no gloves, nothing.

He looked like he was waiting for the next shuttle to arrive at Disney world, while everyone else was putting on an over the top production.

It was so ridiculous.

That's when I knew this was all BULLSHIT.

I guess we need robots as first responders then.

i can imagine a patient dying of a heart attack suffering and reaching for help, while the doctor just watches menacingly as he takes his sweet time putting on all 20 of his masks in order to be "fully protected" enough to help.

Does full PPE include a PAPR powered respirator?

See now I think that is crap..people are having heart attacks out there in the community not just in hospital settings.

You have minutes to get CPR going..minutes the golden time.after that you can pound on the chest as long as you are capable of, it will make no difference..Will just need the Dr to certify death..

So.are these medics so scared shitless they may get a dose, or so brainwashed they have to follow protocol...or do not give a shit..or payed to not give a shit...or are they seeing people dropping likes flies and just cannot cope with the numbers.

So.

We use level 2 PPE for all normal patients - mask, gloves and aprons.

For cardiac/respiratory arrests we use level 3 PPE as we will use airway management. That’s suits, double gloves and head sets connects to a respirator.

Level 3 takes a while to put on so any normal crew would send in the first person with level 2 so you can start CPR and attach a defib and the others would attend when dressed fully.

I don’t think any time is actually lost in reality.

Heart attacks are not the same thing as cardiac arrest. I can say that when the pandemic first hit , they did make us wear PPE during cardiac arrest. I stopped doing that after my second one. It takes too much time and it makes things hot.
I remember dispatch not sending an ambulance to a code because they lady had Covid… she was only in her 50s. Granted, the nearest truck was 15 minutes away . They sent a supervisor and the supervisor disregard the ambulance.

In fact, currently, I'm doing some research on NHS and associated performance. (For publication at some point).

I've been speaking with elected members (councillors),medical people and social workers. The councillors and social workers tell me that (on condition of anonymity) the whole system is a complete mess. There is no ambulance service outside cities. No support for vulnerable people. Almost impossible to get GP appts (they seem to be in hiding).

All the professionals I've listened to are, however they say it, sure that it's due to incompetence and bad management. (Often, it's something like 'it's all gone to shit')

Each adult taxpayer contributes about £750 annually to the NHS. On average, the whole cost of healthcare works out to about £3000 per person per year (including the tax contribution. So the gvt actually chips in FAR less than comparable EU countries).

UK NHS spending is £2000+ LESS per person per year than in comparable EU countries, France and Germany. (UK spending is in the same group as Slovenia, Italy, Poland, Latvia, Estonia.) In the G7 nations, the UK is the second lowest healthcare spender, only Italy spends less. Worse still, the UK has been decreasing its spending year on year.

So the NHS is NOT expensive.

Instead, it's mis-spending what little it has on such as trendy frolics that should be dealt with through private healthcare (I leave you to determine what they are - your guess is probably correct), a vast increase in 'non-taxpayers', legal defence against all the many patients who have been iatrogenically injured (that is, incompetence and negligence due to lack of adequate staff, resources and training, low staff morale), a large, over-blown management system, over-payments to favoured suppliers, and gvt ministers's whims - and god knows what other idiocies.

The law of diminishing returns is certainly at work here. the less gvts pay for healthcare, the more problems patients end up with and which necessitate much more attention further down the line.

Although I'm in the vulnerable group (and have had no medical attention for over 2 years), I agree that the gvt and its abysmal 'experts' have made a massive mess of dealing with Covid. That's what's going to take 5-10 years to sort out.
