We sat there on the bench staring into each others' eyes
I knew I had seen him before but I couldn't for the life of me remember when or where.
So I stared into his warm blue eyes, his wrinkled face showing a lifetime of memories.

He stared back at me and I could tell he was trying to remember me as well.

As we sat there for 10 minutes or more, neither of us needing to say a word, a woman sat down between us.

She had on a long coat, it looked like a rain coat but it seemed to be made of wool.
Her hat was round and sat on top of her hair, not really on her head at all. It had red berries and some little flowers on it. There was a black net, like a short veil, on the hat that could be pulled down.

I wondered where people shop to find these out of the ordinary clothes.

The woman jumped up just as the squeaky brakes of a bus made their announcement.

As we all got on the bus I remembered where I knew the gentleman from.

I made sure to sit where there were two seats together so the old man could sit next to me.
As he approached the empty seat, he looked at me with an inquisitive look on his face, as if to ask if I mind if he sat there.

I was so excited I shook my head yes and waved my hand for him to sit.

I blurted out, "HI, I'm JoJo!"
He replied softly, with such a nice smile on his face, "I know." And he proceeded to ask me if I knew who he was.

I told him I remembered him coming to our house when I was just a toddler.
He would be sitting on the couch and he would call me, "JoJo".
I would come running and climb onto his lap.

We would sit there and talk and laugh and he always told me to look in his shirt or jacket pocket. He always had candy for me.

But we couldn't let my mom know about the candy because she yelled at him once for giving me candy. So it was our little secret.

Re: We sat there on the bench staring into each others' eyes
Just then the buzzer rang on the bus and the driver called out, "Baltic Avenue".

I said, a little hurriedly, "This is my stop".
The gentleman replied, "It's mine too".

As we got off the bus I asked him if he lived nearby and he motioned north with his head and said "Just down the street".

I smiled and said "I live down there too, in a small apartment."

He then said "Just moved in my new house today, moving was hard but I got squared away". I couldn't stop from laughing. That was the first line in an old song about a guy moving into a haunted house with a ghost. It's a funny novelty song from the 1950's or 60's.

Re: We sat there on the bench staring into each others' eyes
As we walked down the street to our homes, we passed by the old Chance Factory. The man said, "A lot of memories there", motioning with his head.
I asked him to please tell me more and what he said startled me.

"That's where I met your mom, we worked there together until I got fired".

I wanted to know what kind of a relationship they had but somehow I asked him why he got fired.

His reply seemed so off the cuff.
"I was joking around one day telling your mom to "Take a CHANCE and pull down your underpants."

Oh my God, was he joking? He told me in a roundabout way before of moving into a haunted house and now this. I don't remember him being a jokester, just a wonderful loving man.

He said the boss, 'Old Man Tom Chance' the miserable miserly owner of the factory saw/heard it and fired him.

I asked, "He fired you for making fun of his name?"

He replied, "No, he fired me for telling your mom to pull down her underpants".

We had now arrived at my apartment. I wanted to learn more but I hadn't seen him for what, 20 years?
My mind was racing...should I invite him up? What if...?

I heard myself asking him, "Would you like to come up to my apartment?"

Re: We sat there on the bench staring into each others' eyes
I wasn't sure what to offer him so I asked him if he would like some coffee and he said he would love some.

He sat at my small kitchen table and stared out the window. He mentioned that the sun felt really good on his face and hands.

The coffee made and poured, I sat down.
And I asked him, "OK, how did you and my mom become friends and what else can you tell me about the two of you?"

He looked down at his cup of coffee as if searching for the right words. Then he said the most shocking words.

"JoJo, I'm your father"

It took a few moments, perhaps even minutes and I could sense that my jaw had dropped. I was sitting there with my mouth open; I could barely believe his words.

And now thoughts started racing through my head.

I think that a lot of people are about to awaken into the State of Agape. For a long time, it wasn't really achievable, it was more about the attempt.

"Agápe: empathetic, universal love
Agápe is love for others that's inclusive of a love for God, nature, strangers, or the less fortunate. It's generally an empathetic love toward humanity itself and is sometimes connected to altruism since it involves caring for and loving others without expecting anything in return. This sort of pay-it-forward love—people helping others selflessly—is the foundation of great societies and communities.

“Agápe is characterized by unconditional positive regard, acceptance, faithfulness and commitment,” says Constantine. “Becoming involved in one’s community by volunteering is an easy way to show this type of love,” she says."
