Police release body cam video of Nashville officer shooting man in leg after car crash

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) - Police have released body cam video of a Metro Police officer shooting a man in the leg following a two-vehicle accident in Goodlettsville.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is investigating the officer-involved shooting. It happened Monday afternoon in the 1300 block of Dickerson Pike.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, Officer Byron Boelter stopped at the scene of a two-vehicle crash. Police said 20-year-old Rod Reed was in a Chevrolet Camaro and reached for a gun on the dashboard.

Boelter—a 16-year veteran on the force—fired and struck Reed in the leg, according to police. Surveillance video from a nearby business reportedly shows Reed driving erratically when he struck a Nissan Altima. Late Monday night, police released body camera video of the shooting, and said the following events occurred:

Officer Boelter walked over to a Chevrolet Camaro to check on any occupants. As Officer Boelter approached the driver’s side door, Reed reached for a gun on the dashboard of the Camaro from the passenger’s side. Officer Boelter instructed Reed not to retrieve the weapon, but Reed continued to move toward the gun. Officer Boelter fired his weapon and struck Reed in the leg.

Reed was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and is in stable condition. A gun was recovered at the scene near the Camaro.

A young girl passenger in the Nissan Altima was taken to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital with minor injuries.

Another black idiot. They just can't help themselves. Pulled over for speeding? Throw a tantrum and fight the police. Get in a car crash? Try to pull out a gun for no reason. No wonder the cops always waste their asses.
