You go, guys. Quoting: Canuck 325838They won't be laughing when they can't afford to buy gas, now will they???? Blessings to you both and don't let anyone dissuade you from doing the "right thing". Thanks. We just cant see starting our cars to go such a short distance. And if we can get a few laughs in the process, even better. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 365413 Germany 01/31/2008 01:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yeah and those fatass-gut the size of quadruplets-coal miner HE-MAN (ha,yeah right)types WISH they could get on a bike and actually make it go for more than two feet before falling over like a two-year-old girl. Me and my Specialized mountainbike can go over stuff that would leave most SUV's and 4x4 dead in their tracks. Personally I'd get individual bikes as it gives you more control on the road, especially for getting out of the way of dumfux on their cellphones that THINK they know how to drive those BIGASS trucks. They'll be laughing all right when gas goes to 4 bucks a gallon. Quoting: bikes rule! 13730True, there are some control issues on a tandem bike. It takes some getting used to. They certainly are not as controllable as single seat bikes. Since we started riding that thing, we never even think of taking the car to work, unless the weather is just so bad that it isnt possible. And we have ridden it in the rain to work, and for some reason, the guys at work seem to think that arriving on that thing in the rain is even funnier. If you could picture my co-worker (the back-seater), holding an umbrella as we pull up to the site...... |

The mass media/Madison Avenue tells us the macho male (coal miner) should fire up his Humvee and drive off two miles down the road to work to command the envy and respect of his co-workers. You two bike guys are going so much against the grain of the "American Idol" - excessively managed perceptions of the American "normal" and American "ideal" - that your bike strikes people as funny/odd/off the norm - worthy of a giggle at. In actuality they should be laughing at the 170lb guy who takes a 5,000lb Humvee to work while getting 3.6 MPG. The thought of the sight of that should make people piss themselves while coming unglued - laughing. |

Hey OP, good for you, I am glad you guys are riding your bike and having fun with it too. Gives the coworkers something to talk about and a laugh at work always makes the day go better. Not only are you saving money and wear and tear on the car, but you are providing an important social function as well! Keep up the good work! and, this thread made me laugh too! So you see, you are doing the right thing and reaching many people, soon, you will be famous, starting with your job, everyone knows who you are there now, then, everyone on GLP will know about you and your tandem excursions, next . . . . . ? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 365413My buddy lives down the block from me, and we take a tandem bicycle to work. Work is about 2 miles away. The folks at work seem to think that it is really funny. Any thoughts on this? They are laughing because the only "guys" that would dare ride tandem are gay these days. Other than that your only biycle buddy company is Spongebob and Patrick |

User ID: 367161 France 02/03/2008 10:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When I lived 1/2 mile from work and walked to work, it almost took a whole year for co-workers to get used to it. If it was slightly raining, they'd offer me a ride and feel very sorry for me. Ordinary people are very strange. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 343012I've walked to work for the last twenty years, wherever I worked and wherever I lived. I'm glad I don't have to explain myself all the time! I agree, 'ordinary' people are very strange. Luckily I don't have much interaction with them! :-) I'd be bored to tears. |
