Comet Leonard is rapidly brightening as it approaches Earth for a close encounter on Dec. 12th Comet Leonard races throughout Serpens and into Ophiuchus throughout its final mornings of visibility earlier than transitioning into night twilight. SERPENS and OPHIUCHUS The struggle with the enemy Serpens (the Serpent) Ophiuchus (the Serpent Holder) Serpens, the serpent, is seen struggling vainly in the powerful grasp of the man who is named O-phi-u-chus. In Latin he is called Serpentarius. He is at one and the same moment shown to be seizing the serpent with his two hands, and treading on the very heart of the scorpion, marked by the deep red star Antares (wounding). Nereus is approximately 330 meters wide, roughly the size of the Eiffel Tower. It’s expected to come within 2.5 million miles of Earth on Dec. 11, considered very close in cosmic standards.
