I grew up in the area lived right on the Niagara, family has boating business, there is a point well before the falls no boats are allowed because the current takes you down the falls and no way to turn around. Many suicides take place at the falls for some reason if someone decides to end their life it is always at Niagara falls, maybe because there is no turning around, no 2nd chances as the current is too strong. Maybe some find it a romantic way to go, I don't know but it is common around the holidays issues come up.
