Forgiveness of Others is Almost Impossible for Many - Yet it's Necessary - Bible Study
What Jesus said...

Matthew 6

14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

...

Mark 11

25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

...

Matthew 7

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

...

Mattew 18

21 5 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

Re: Forgiveness of Others is Almost Impossible for Many - Yet it's Necessary - Bible Study
The Father provides the power for forgiveness of sins. Jesus proves it with these.

The Lord's Prayer - Matthew 6 & Luke 11 - asks the Father for forgiveness.

Matthew 6

9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.

13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Luke 11

1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

3 Give us day by day our daily bread.

4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

Very hard.
We aren't cut out to be socialists. We are the people who couldn't be constrained by Europe. We are the malcontents, idealists, speculators, dreamers, inventors, debtors and criminals who would not be chained. We don't play well with others, we are brash, outlandish and cunning. let us do what we do best; let us be Americans.

In the latter years of my Mon's life, she would have bad dreams about things that happened when she was younger.

I never asked what those were, but I was always at a "loss for words" as how to help her.

Until God "recalled me" from my sinful ways and had me read the Bible.

The last time Mon told me about the dreams...words just seemed to come out of my mouth...

..."you need to forgive them".

I was able to recount what Jesus had said about the Father forgiving those who forgive others.

She said "I'll try".

She never had those dreams again.

I have a question.

I have a problem with my father and I have forgiven him, but there's still hurt there. I don't know how to get totally over it. Somehow it's stuck in my psyche.

How do you forgive and still have a hurt?

I'm talking on my face before YHVH forgiving.

It's weird and I know I have to overcome this.
Not harboring anger, but there's still hurt.

Thoughts?

For me, it would kind of depend on how "recent" the hurt began.

"The deeper the wound - the longer it takes to heal."

I simply refuse to let hurt "rule over" me.

I learned at a young age that people can do or say very cruel things.

The resulting hurt can lead to bitterness and even hate.

Some folks will say "forgive but NEVER forget".

But it's also easy to see that the more a person dwells on something, it takes away time that could be spent on more productive thoughts and actions - the Father's Will.

The more time you spend doing and saying "good things" - the less time you will have to dwell on hurt etc...

I hope you aren't offended by what I just daid.

OP

Your thread is timely as I am struggling with this act of both forgiving and forgetting.

I understand it is what God expects of us but some situations it seems so hard.

I did something to improve my family’s situation but it caused a problem. it was an innocent mistake, and the problem easily solved, but I was accused of being deceitful, destructive and acting out of hate. By way of background this tend to be the baseline reaction of most things I do even though time and time again I have proven the things I have done were the right approach and beneficial.

Back to the current situation the rhetoric over the next several days got even nastier and I was accused of even more crazy stuff and the next thing I know I am unable to access certain things. my partner said it was an innocent mistake but given everything that had been said to me, I felt strongly that was untrue. My partner involved their family, swore innocence and was believed. It all felt very manipulative and the incidence I described above was used as see you also made a mistake and it was innocent. I never shared the earlier situation with the family so it just feels even more that my partner behind the scenes was manipulating things.

I want to forgive and forget and I know I am also meant to ask for forgiveness. It is so hard when it all feels so manipulative

...

...
