Airport stops outbound flights. Not good for east... Tornadoes!? I woke up bright and early and it was quite a beautiful and still morning. Quoting: eyeDR3 The cold front SLAMMED us in an instant, little warning or talk of this. All of the sudden there was a half inch of sleet on the ground and stuff everywhere! This initial hit wasn't the worst of it apparently. All throughout the day gusts could be extremely dangerous especially in the mountains. With this extreme and rapid event, I am now worried about those of you that are in states east of me like Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas. I hope this isn't a huge problem while they're already dealing with so much right now a week out from Christmas... Be careful out there! If you have a flight to or from Denver check it now! Might be cancelled or heavily delayed. Edit to add link [link to kdvr.com (secure)] 72 in my part of Missouri right now. Blowing deck furniture and a eighty pound weighted umbrella base around. Not good for east... Tornadoes!? It's going to be 80 degrees in Houston again today and tomorrow. Very warm air hitting that cold air coming. It's going to cause another big tornado outbreak somewhere. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77804768 Yeah that's what I was thinking. Fucking scary. Tornadoes are no joke! One of my only REAL fears, like an earthquake, tsunami and other rapid natural disasters that are tough to get out of the way of. And all the horrific events and death by these monstrous storms lately only adds to the sorrow and pain in an already depressed nation. God, I pray this spares the people! Wild. :memorybanner: |

I've got family driving back this way that are currently in Missouri but about to be in Nebraska. They're in for a crazy time. I told them to get under a bridge if they can if they run into a tornado system. There's honestly not a lot of bridges in i80 to my memory. Very very long drawn out highway with wide open space just waiting to produce tornadoes. :memorybanner: |

Very very long drawn out highway with wide open space just waiting to produce tornadoes. Under bridges isn't a good place to be during a tornado. They create an air funneling effect that can be deadly. About 10 years ago we were in western Nebraska on our way to Wyoming, and got caught in a warned tornado area. By the time we heard the warning on the weather band radio, we were in the middle of it. We were on the bike, so fully exposed to it all. We ended pulling of the highway and had to take cover in a wash out pit for cattle trucks. Watched a twister pass just south of us less than a half mile away. I mostly agree, last one, but in their little sedan they'd be thrown. The saving grace of some bridges in the protection from the hail and large debris. Not much you can do about the small stuff and the winds. There's really no true safe place but in a cellar. On your BIKE!? OMG that's something I take it you'll never ever forget! Crazy! Glad you made it okay! :memorybanner: |
