Re: Buying precious metals question.
If I wanted to invest in gold and silver (not the paper bullshit kind), is it better to buy coins or bars?

Is it better to buy whole 1 ounce coins/bars or several smaller coins/bars?

Is there a ratio between gold and silver that would work best?

I don't really have that much to invest, but see it just as a protection against inflation and interest on my savings account is 0%...

OP I have a decent amount of gold and silver.

I divided my gold and silver into two categories

Silver and gold bought for store of wealth and siover and gold bought for possible barter.

I have kilo bars of silver and some of gold (not kilos obviously)

Those are my store of wealth PM's.

The rest is ounce amd half ounce gold coins and even a few quarter ounce ones. You do pay more per ounce the smaller you go.

Same for silver but I have a ridiculous amount of maples and eagles.

Ultimately its what you like. Chances are there ate others that like it too and when the time comes you'll have no problem cashing in.

I was in cryptos for a long time, from 2012 to 2020. I cashed in as soon as my intuition told me too and don't regret it one bit.

I converted all cryptos into house additions, solar, and PM's.

We're entering a strange tine in history. A time in history where its best to HOLD assets.

I know so many people that are papered out with stocks and gold/silver, and shibu inu, and debt and i just shake my head at what theyre about to lose.

I just wrote a beautiful and well thought out post on silver and gold vs other forms of asset and it got fucking censored.

What the fuck is censorable with gold and fucking silver.

How frustrating. Wasted 10 minutes of my life.

This site is getting ridics sometimes. I didn't write anything racist or vulgar.

I buy 1 oz coins. You get a larger bulk discount, and smaller denominations are easier to spend.

It's best to buy at the bottom. We ain't there yet.

timing any Market correctly is a hard thing to do!

i would go with 1 OZ. 24kt Bars or the 1 OZ. 24kt Gold
Buffalos. Never spend money you don't have on PM's as you
could be sitting on them for some time, always purchase from
a reputable Dealer like JM Bullion, Apmex etc.

Curious if you’re like me. Once I started finding good deals over the years, I still prefer to hold them instead of profit. Was going to do it for a living but I can’t part with any of it. Something about holding it in your hands.

Another way to go is to invest in Gold/Silver Miners, most have been beat up pretty bad lately, do your homework and invest in those that pay a dividend, not as good as owning Physical PM's but it's a lot cheaper to invest in, atm i like Barrick Gold. B2 Gold and Yamana are very affordable right now, i sold them both at all-time highs about a year ago but thinking about getting back in??

Thank you all for the input! hf

Some good suggestions here that I can work with! I will also speak to a local dealer here about these options and have a look at his inventory and prices.
I prefer not to make these kind of large purchases online, let alone from another continent. I don't trust the courier/mailman with it :)

I have never (Knock on wood) had any problems ordering online or the delivery but i live rural and my mail lady always brings our packages to the porch. Depending on the amount most online PM Dealers will usually require a signature upon delivery especially for anything over $500, if you are talking thousands of Dollars they will most likely use UPS for delivery.

Local coin dealers can be a good source too but shop around if you don't normally deal with them on a regular basis! premiums can also vary from dealer to dealer, it mostly depends on location and overhead, i wouldn't deal with any pawn shops especially if they don't own a Sig or other modern PM testing devices!

If you are holding physical for SHTF, have fractional coins as well as 1 Oz gold coins cuz if you have to use them for barter, you won't be getting change also fractional coins don't draw attention like a 1 oz coin....have a mix of both...

With the exception of junk silver coins, I stick with bullion instead of numismatic coins....bullion doesn't have any value over the metal content unlike numismatic coins that have collector value......an oz is an oz.....American gold and silver eagles have a higher premium than generic bullion, but they are easier to recognize to a lesser degree the canadian maple leafs.....

I tend to minimize bars cuz they are not commonly recognized.....I do have Englehard and Johnson Matthey silver bars cuz they do have some recognition....
