He Hires Crashed Space Shuttle Recoverers To Find It! Bitcoin is not saved on a hard drive or on a usb stick. Its saved on the blockchain. If you have a USB ledger for example you could smash it with a hammer and your Crypto would still be safe. All you need is the passphrase. And you should NEVER keep your passphrase on a computer hard drive. They can be hacked so many ways. |

Once they have it they'll let him in to look for it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76909969 I should imagine some of the workmen may be planning or would want to do that. Ive heard of Robbing a Bank, but robbing a Rubbish Landfill Site? I like hearing about stories like this... thousands or even tens of thousands of bitcoins lost for eternity. Quoting: REaliZe In reality, there are now probably less than 10 million coins still around, meaning the price of each will be worth that much more in the long run. Yes I am sure many many are lost, gone, bought and forgotton initially, the key or access lost, people dying and no one knowing it is hidden on an encrypted something somewhere. Totally wrong if however he had invested in the triple AAA A1 Steak Sauce Futures Hedge Fud, then maybe I would agree :-) It is totally, I remember when it first at around £1000 a bitcoin and the hype was building about it, and the press release, the picture then to the more recent picture of the guy, is quite differant, he now has that 1000yd stare and looks very similair in expressions as the first Guy after pressing play, in this famous clip, and that is him against the local politicians and their minions: It is markedly diffarent to 5 yrs ago when I last saw his photo. I am not suprised! Hey because someone pinned it, it is new that he has employed and agreed in principal with the company that got the Hard drive from the crashed cullombia Space shuttle, and is now offering 1/4 of the find to the council, and has located a 200m area where it probably is. Hope that's current enough for you. The article states Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19876247 HE threw the hard drive in trash SHE just took it to the landfill bin It wasn’t her fault Misleading headline She didn’t clean the office or touch the hard drive She took the BAGS OF TRASH OUT The value could climb to over a BILLION ..... Don’t even tell me landfill employees aren’t out there with flashlights at night Um How is the heading misleading? You are lying or cant read here is the Headline: Girlfriend Throws Away £340million of Bitcoin! He Hires Crashed Space Shuttle Recoverers To Find It! She did throw it away, his girlfreind, fact. He has hired and agreed with the company if he and they get access the company that recovered the space shuttles hard drive? And yes I am sure as their is security at night they might be having a bit of a dig. The bitch would be turning tricks on the corner until she was ninety if she was mine. Ahem... im sure it is the reason their relationship did not last. From both sides. Have no idea who that is or relevance, to me or the story? will look later TY I only got into cryptos in late 2017, so I have no idea what hobby "miners" were doing in the very early days. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78728125 From what I've learned, BTC was just "magic Internet money", akin to in-game tokens, back in the day. It was actually being given away in large quantities, at the start. I can't fault this guy for doing what he did. He had no way of knowing what was to come. You could on a normal PC mine and expect to be able to over a few months get a coin at the very very least, if left on all the time doing just that, one old very basic PC. I remember a price of £7 a full coin and nearly bought a lot ....wish I had indeed now obviously. Im heavily into Steak A1 Sauce and Marmite/Vegimite Futures so I will recoup much more there in the short term :-) More right than you know, one of it's first uses (if not the first?) was for conducting Magic the Gathering card trading. The ill fated Bitcoin "exchange" MTGOX actually began as Magic The Gathering Online eXchange. Quoting: CK Dexter Haven That's interesting TY did not know that will have a bit of a read, TY Indeed a big differance and tangible, is Bitcoin like Tulips? who knows... Property in certain parts of the world, Land especially food production and WATER rights ownership are all great generational past any fashion, stores and even providers of income wealth esp future WATER, Gold is there to as the increasing amount for electricals, all rare earth minerals are great bets for the 10-30 yr time frame as everything becomes electric cars etc... Yes. I never dealt with MtGox, thankfully. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78728125 Bix Weir tells me that he had one BTC in the MtGox exchange, but will only get about 400 bucks for it, since that was the valuation at the time it collapsed. Looks like the FBI/CIA crims robbed all the BTC from MtGox and are using it to "tamp down the price." It is tragic, and there has obviosuly been manipulation from both sides the baddies in the computer net world and governments to, and anyone who does not themselves hold digital currency themselves seperate from any exchange or cloud etc is naive. The same will probably be true in the near term if SHTF and the "Paper Gold" as they cant cover the leveredge...I tell you ww3 really breaks out it would go to the moon and make bitcoin seem like current venezualan money. For the knuckleheads with $300 million of Bitcoin and Quoting: Avenger1 a sketchy girlfriend, may I suggest a cold wallet storage. Geez. Indeed even without any sketchiness involved anywhere it is wise. Bitcoin is like that book ‘The Secret’ just air. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71088931 Nothing real, just lies in the air. Unbelievable. As mentioned Fiat that is your paper money is juts the same, created out of thin air....it is no matter who philospicaly correct your stance, something, multi multi millionaires and billionaires have and are being made by its use and trading, people have jobs, there are companies due to it, computers are built made and sold and electricity generated to mine it, etc etc etc. £340 million is something in real tangible terms this guy would have he has not now, THAT IS MASSIVE MONEY if he could just get that small 3.5 inch magnetic storage media. It's very very real for him working as an IT help Desk type unable probably in the UK to buy a house and renting, when he could have a provate jet mansions around the world, never work again and do what he wanted for the rest of his life. So I agree but also in our shared reality totally disagree. Lol what a twist would be a good hollywood movie, who knows. What was his seed phrases? Quoting: Butch DeFeo You can't be dumb when you own a lot of cryptocurrency. I have no idea my friend, however he was not very organised in this regard and very lax indeed. They are "reluctant" to let him dig through the garbage for his hard drive because they probably have their own people digging for it. Once they have it they'll let him in to look for it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76909969 LOL, not even the council but the individuals on the council, are out there themselves! I am sure there has been attempts, and maybe in the years trying to get it, it may also have been recovered and behind red tape, health and safety laws, local government authority no one would ever know eh? Bitcoin is not saved on a hard drive or on a usb stick. Its saved on the blockchain. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75953087 If you have a USB ledger for example you could smash it with a hammer and your Crypto would still be safe. All you need is the passphrase. And you should NEVER keep your passphrase on a computer hard drive. They can be hacked so many ways. The blockchain # and password is obviosuly what is referred to for 7500 of them. May god Bless You all & I hope this guy is allowed to let the Specialist company who worked with Nasa at least give it a try. It would be good for him, for the company, for the local people as the £100 million for hospitals roads schools etc.. He Hires Crashed Space Shuttle Recoverers To Find It! This story didn't make sense last time it was told... In mid-2013, 7,500 BTC was worth $1 million. Nobody 'forgets' they have $1m on a hard drive. Who would mine 7,500 BTC and then not back it up? No IT guy would have done that. If somebody throws away something of great value, they do not wait for more than six months to try and get it back. This guy claims he forgot he had $1m on his hard drive in mid-2013 and threw it away. He then tried to get it back in 2014. "Newport City Council has been contacted a number of times since 2014 about the possibility of retrieving a piece of IT hardware said to contain Bitcoins. The first time was several months after Mr Howells first realised the hardware was missing." For how long had he not been using the computer when he threw it away? If he had been mining a short time before he threw it away, it makes even less sense that he would have 'forgotten'. I call BS on this story. |

He Hires Crashed Space Shuttle Recoverers To Find It! If as a very respected and long running Financial Massive Company predicts Quoting: MostHolyFace "Standard Chartered Predicts Bitcoin Will Hit $100k In 2021 Or Early 2022" Then 7500 x 100k = $750,000,000.00 [link to finance.yahoo.com (secure)] And many saying much much higher as time goes on it could be in the billions and billions of $ USD Sat in a Rubbish Dump. It is insane the Council will not let so far him access. For this sort of money, open cast mining, whole mountains are almost moved and restructured, and massive engineering projects and chemical plants are built. Without every time, being truly sure, until they actually drill Oil Fields in inhospitable parts of the ocean, in an attempt to find some oil. May God Bless You 1- It's NOT hitting $100k. See for yourself. 2- I call bs. Why doesn't he just use his recovery phrase? |
