This. When I was a kid it got so cold one winter we went skating on Burnaby Lake. I think it was just in 2009 when it snowed in November in the lower mainland and it stayed for months. And my mom used to tell me about the time Okanagan Lake froze over and the whole town had a skating party.

Point is, its winter. More often than not it is just cold and rainy in Vancouver, but Canadian winter weather isn't unheard of either. Just a few months ago everyone was whining about the heat. Just a few weeks ago everyone was whining about the rain, and now people are gonna whine about the snow and cold in winter. That's what Vancouverites do. Whine about the weather. No matter how cold it gets this week, it's nothing like what happens in Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg year.

Look on the bright side, it's going to be a white Christmas, and that hasn't happened for a while.

Go back before Jamestown VA and we really have NO idea what things were like or what the conditions were like.

I bet this kind of thing has happened in the past we just don't know about it.

Sure, go back far enough and this entire part of the world was covered in ice.

They have means of estimating the temperatures through the geological records..

Global warming is causing the record low temperatures.

People may laugh at that, but that has happened in the past, where a warming spike leads into a mini-ice age, because of the breakdown of the ocean currents when the glaciers melt off, causing the top and bottom of the planet to not get heat brought up to it.

Anyway on topic.. The coldsnap here is happening tomorrow afternoon where the temp drops dramatically over the course of few hours christmas evening, with a potential -20 degree difference from average by sunday morning.
