how do you have internet access in the mountains?
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10648024 OP is just east of Abbotsford, a bedroom community of Vancouver. They probably have cell phone coverage, so they can make their phone a wifi hotspot. If you are out of cell phone range, with a cheap "In reach" device you can still send text messages from anywhere in the world via satellite without the expense of an actual satellite phone. These could be relayed to the Internet by a friend. A free Avenza Maps app on your phone allows you to carry 3 maps on your phone. For $25/year you can carry unlimited maps on your phone. You can find and download backroads maps online. Once you are out of cell phone range, the GPS on your phone will show your location on your selected map to an accuracy of 5 meters. A $40 external battery from Walmart will keep your cell phone going for days between charges.
