WHUT?! 1 out of every 5 people who got a COVID test result in 74% vaccinated North Carolina on Sunday tested positive

Nearly 22% of people in North Carolina who tested for coronavirus on Sunday tested positive, according to data released by the state Department of Health and Human Services. That's one out of every five people who got a COVID-19 test result.

"Not only is that number more than double what it was when our data was updated last week, but it's also the highest percent positive since the pandemic began," according to WRAL's investigative data reporter Ali Ingersoll.

The positivity rate has been steadily rising since last weekend and jumped from 15.3% to 21.9% over the weekend, according to WRAL Data Trackers.

That case positivity rate is dangerously high, according to officials at the World Health Organization. They recommend that governments should only reopen if their case positivity rate is at or below 5% for 14 days.
