Clinton May Garnish Wages to Achieve Universal Health Care

Been well known for quite some time.

Just a reminder of what may be coming.

everyone keeps talking about 'universal health care' but what i want to hear is how we can freaking just lower health care COSTS in general...

for example: the flu is raging at our kids' school. oldest son came down with it first. called our local family physician and was told that a trip to the doctor plus the flu test = $92.00. To fill the tamiflu prescription at Fred's dollar store is $95. $88 at walmart, $105 at Walgreens.

we are a family of five. stupid school board rules DICTATE that in order for a kid to have an 'excused' absence, then you MUST take your kid to the doctor and get an excuse.

So right there, if all three kids get the flu, it's almost $300 for the doctor visits for all of them. If my husband and I get it and go to the doctor that's another $200.

If we all five get prescriptions for tamiflu, that's another $500.

So, a family of 5 could end up spending $1000.00 just to get some drugs to shorten this vicious flu strain down to 2 days from 7.

Of course, we didn't do that. That's stupid. I tell the school to kiss my ass on that policy - but it still enrages me that they can 'choose' to 'not' let a kid 'make up work' if the parent doesn't haul their kid off to the doctor.

In our case, my son did indeed come down with the flu. But since 8 other kids in my (very small) neighborhood and 3 parents all had it, I figured hell, no reason to spend $92 for someone to verify what I already know he has. A friend of a friend had an extra tamiflu prescription that had not been filled and gave to me so I filled it for my son - only gave him a third of the prescription (he started feeling better within 24 hours), and when my husband came down with it I gave him a third (he felt better within 24 hours) and so far my fingers are crossed that the rest of us can dodge this bullet since I only have a third left and there's still 3 of us that haven't gotten it yet, lol :)

But still...aggravates the crap out of me that it costs so much for just general health care!

Another example - my annual physical with the gyn - I was billed $328.00 (??????!!!!!???? WHAT???)....

That's freaking CRAZY!

We don't go the docs much - we are a healthy family, so we NEVER reach our high deductible on our insurance. If a kid comes down with a nasty fever and cough (and I hear through the grapevine that strep is going around or something) that is about the only time I will actually take my kids to the doctor. It just is crazy that it costs so much!

We are not poor, so I take all this with a grain of salt - still pisses me off though. At least I can afford it if I *have* to use it....but what about those that can't? Geez.

Did for both my son and my husband. Hubby called it a magic bullet.

We aren't a big drug type family. Advil for headaches, that's about it.

But this strain literally takes you DOWN....Both of them were ready for something to make it better, and yes the tamiflu certainly seemed to take the worst out of it.

My wages are already being garnished-it's called income tax.........

My family is uninsured. We don't go to the doctor unless it's life threatening or something we can't fix. I can do a pretty sweet suture when I have to. I can set a bone better than some doctors and make a cast like an artist.

I wouldn't have these skills if health care was affordable. Insurance isn't the answer, it's the problem. Everyone with insurance pays for a couple doctor visits a month that they never use. The hospitals charge what the insurance companies will pay, not what it costs to do business. Erase the insurance and prices will drop to what most people can afford. If no one would pay $10 for aspirin at a hospital then they wouldn't charge that much. Insurance companies pay that $10 like it's nothing. So that becomes the price.

Because of insurance each suture costs like $20. Because of insurance walking into the emergency room costs $150 before you've ever been seen. Because of dental insurance it costs $300 to pull a tooth (a 5 minute procedure).

Ban insurance and prices will fall to what people can afford. Give everyone insurance and everyone's going to get screwed. They'll have poor care and slim wallets. It's a losing idea for everyone except the insurance companies and doctors.

All citizens who fail to pay the health tax will be sent to re-education "camps"
