Not that the death rates compare, but during the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic there were reports of Canadian fur trappers found dead from flu in cabins hundreds of miles from the nearest settlement.
Supposedly, they had zero possible contact with other humans for months prior to the outbreak.

It's plausible that the wind could have carried nano sized particles that rained or snowed down on the trappers.
But hard to imagine any concentration being high enough to cause infection.
Of course with almost no sun exposure during winter months in latitudes this far north -and even less intense sun in Antartica- totally tanking vitamin D levels would greatly weaken people's natural immunity.

Some believe viral pandemics are seeded by periodic comets or meteor showers as, historically, they also increase in frequency just prior to world pandemic outbreaks.

I think this modern pandemic was man made, rather than an act of nature.
I wonder if the Antartica infected this time were taking any vitamin D supplements?

This reminds me of a story I read about a COVID outbreak that happened aboard a fishing vessel 35 days after it left port and all the fishermen on board had tested negative for COVID before leaving.

There can be only two explanations for this:

1. The virus has an exceptionally long incubation period and the pre-departure tests had generated false negative results.

2. The virus is airborne in sufficient amounts everywhere to cause infection, or the mode of transmission was seagull droppings that landed on the fishing boat, or from fish harvested during the daily catch.

Or they just had the common cold/flu and the doctors lied and called it covid.

Pretty simple if the test kits were contaminated

Two-thirds of the station’s staff of 25 have been infected with the coronavirus, Belgium’s polar secretariat confirmed to local media earlier this week. But how the virus could have reached the remote station, located some 220km (137 miles) from the Antarctic coast, remains a mystery.
