Every doctor or cop has legal authority to place anyone on a 72hour mental health hold in the USA. My son was in the ER refusing to answer the doctor. The doc placed him on an M1 hold for the reason of “gravely disabled”. I fought for 14 days to get my son out of the psych facility. It’s a system that works when you need it but unreasonable doctors can have unreasonable powers if their interpretation of mental health crisis is scewed.
