I'm in central Florida and was at Publix, and they are indeed out of a lot of stuff. The place was full of snowbirds and others stocking up like a hurricane is coming. Beef was cleared out, a few cartons of premium cage free eggs were there but not any of the cheaper ones. I needed eggs, so I got the premium ones, which were 4.29 a dozen. Another premium brand was over 6 dollars!
Bread was thinned out, but I got what I came for. Empty spots everywhere.
It's my thought that being on a peninsula, we get fewer deliveries in winter than if we were near contiguous states. Fewer hauls go up north unless crops are going that way. Not much manufacturing. Truckers have to have a haul to here and from here to make it pay.
Floridians are pretty good at stocking up. I have freeze dried eggs if I had to go that route, but the genuine article is much nicer to have, even if I have to pay 4.29. But I hope my cheaper eggs are back in stock soon.
I don't give a rat's ass if the chicken lived in a cage or was let out to eat a few bugs in a cage free environment. It was born to be food or make food. They taste the same.
