Shoppers 'astounded' by thinning grocery store supplies: 'It's just empty shelves'
I know we've had a million threads like this, but was surprised to see this latest report on MSM. Is anyone else seeing anything like this lately? Where are you at? My stores seem fine, a little shortage here or there but nothing major. I am in San Diego County.

------------------------------------------------------------

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Empty shelves and thinning groceries and drug supplies are reminiscent of March 2020, Washington, D.C., shoppers told Fox News Digital.

"It's like a Soviet store during 1981. It's horrible," one man said.

"Honestly, it looks like March of 2020, when everybody was stockpiling and the shelves were bare," another man, Dominic, told Fox News Digital.

Grocery shoppers across the country have encountered barren shelves when looking for their typical supplies due to supply chain snafus, increasing COVID-19 infections and related hurdles as well as severe winter weather.

I've seen the frozen food sections pretty thin with just one product deep, but nothing completely bare, especially not an entire shelf

Yeah, it seems weird. If you watch the video on that story, it shows a lot of barren shelves. I don't see anything like that.

Yeah, there is basically no frozen foods available around here aside from the garbage no one likes, like Cauliflower pasta or whatever, lmao. Even all the crappy banquet mystery meat patty tv dinners are gone.

i was at Walmart yesterday and there were a lot of
empty shelves, particularly the gardening section. I
think they're not replenishing stock to create
illusion of profit.

That's certainly something to consider. If the shopper is under the impression that stock is dwindling, are they statistically more likely to panic buy and spend more per visit?

Clearly you don't know many worms. Flat worms are a thing and lasagna is just taking spaghetti and layering it instead. Italian food is the most unoriginal bullshit. Fuck Italy

It's true. It works on me, I remember the great toilet paper shortage of 2020. I have a meager supply of preps, maybe enough canned goods and flour to last about 1 1/2 months. But even after seeing that picture I started thinking maybe I should add another months worth if I can afford it (which I really can't right now). Can't panic buy lol.

I see all these stories and it almost feels like they are wanting people to panic. In the last week I have been to Sam's Kroger and Lowes, all were full no gaps no empty shelves. The Lowes was so full the garden area had 60% of the isles full of pallets.

yeah there's that too. but I was saying that
they're turning existing stock into cashflow
to keep the store open. I saw this often in
last 2 recessions.

That might very well be true. They are spreading panic everywhere, with COVID, and now shortages, and it makes people afraid. I don't argue against being prepared though. That's just wise and common sense depending where you live. I live in a major wild fire area, been through one evacuation (completely unprepared), and stood one out. I finally decided to put a few preps together and a bug out bag, etc. But the panic being spread now is far beyond the idea of being prepared for one of your local disasters (whether it be tornadoes, earthquakes, wild fires, etc).

It's not to hard to prep moderately. It's quite easy, just each time you go to the store, buy an extra can or two of chili, soup, whatever and add it to your store. It adds up over time. You don't need to be like these people who buy up a whole shelf of soup, or a whole shelf of rice. It will most likely just end up going to waste.

Well, I can tell you this -

I'm a produce manager for a local chain on the east coast, last week we had around 8" of snow and that screwed up a lot of our deliveries.

It was hell just getting product all around, not just produce.

This week, the store is in decent condition - we even have chicken!

Kroger in southwest Colorado is showing stress for sure. Most of the pandemic it was pretty good except for spot shortages. Now you can see the trucks are not arriving in time to make the shelves look full. The pet food aisle was decimated.

Once the trucks stop running which is days away you're really going to finally see it. Lots of folks will be caught off guard because they had no idea this was coming.
