Anyone interested in discussing Science-Fiction? I am. We are living in it...NOW!
I'm just looking for anyone who'd like to discuss science-fiction,
with a focus on what's going on today,
and probably into the near future.

I took an English Course in college called 'Science-Fiction & Fantasy'.
At first it might appear that such a course is a stupid waste of time.
For it to even be offered
as a college English Course is comical
because everyone knows Shakespeare is so much more
Ivy League and collegiate...
or something like that I suppose.

We didn't cover any fantasy
however, we did talk about Tolken for a few minutes.
We started with 'Frankenstein'
and quickly covered a wide selection of famous authors in this category.
Maybe their words do not flow as well as other great authors, but they tell a story
about Technology, Society, and the Spiritual Realm.
Stories that were fantastical only 50 years ago
are quite ordinary today;
like going into space.

(Hey, if you want to talk about flat earth, okay, but please keep it reasonably brief and to the point. And by now we "get it" but flat earth certainly does have a place in science-fiction. I'm not saying it's not true. But, Antarctica is certainly a prime candidate for science-fiction woo too!)

I'll finish for now with this:

Why do most high schools require their students to read '1984' or maybe 'Brave New World'?

-AND-

'The Catcher in the Rye'.

I went to high school from 1971-74 and we didn't have to read any of those.

And kids can't even read now.

Maybe even discuss how air molecules are composed through the TV screen even as I type this. lol

I'm downloading this series of "science Fiction" videos right now:

I read lots of sci-fi when I was in school. I particularly liked books with problems I recognized, and thought I might have to deal with one day.

I remember Hammer's Slammers, which I recall as a story of a mercenary tank unit working for an evil empire. Anything I chose to do would be some level of working for an evil empire.

From Wikipedia: "The book concludes with the story "Standing Down," in which Friesland revolutionaries hire the Slammers to overthrow the government of Friesland. Colonel Hammer takes over the revolution and the planet, becomes President of Friesland, and Hammer's unit becomes the 1st Regiment of the Friesland Defense Force."

I also remember Fafred and Grey Mouser, a couple of swashbucklers who fearlessly play tricks on gods.

I think you lost me.
Rush as in the Canadian rock band?
What is the album about?
When was it made?
Any famous songs I might know?

And the rest, I'm lost.
Gucci bags?
WTF with the TV screen?

Thanks,

I was a kid of the 70's and read all of the Jules Vern and HG Wells books. My dad had a subscription to Popular Science and Readers Digest magazines and I read them all.

My favorite book series was Dune and I was excited about the first movie, but was really disappointed in it. It sucked.

Love most of Star Trek , but not a big fan of Star Wars.

I have a feeling the UFO disclosure is going to be used to spread even more fear into the population as more control.

Battlefield Earth Part II would tell a nifty tale of galactic finance and technical domination.

The second half of that book really brings it all together.

I'm not a Scientologist but L. Ron tells some good stories.

Mission Earth is another such series.

As for the Rush album?
There's a graphic novel if you're interested.

The screen?

Your TV or phone screen will do. Every key, stroke or breathe you take... lol

Famous songs? You'd have to be a fan. It's their only full concept album.

And the Gucci Bags? This is how 'science' and 'fiction' create money by selling nothing at all...

You are downloading
an interesting man that I enjoy
listening to.
I'm not so sure about the accuracy of his
prediction system based on internet usage of words
and how that reflects a sort of cosmic consciousness?
Or something like that, it does not matter.

I listen to him because
he is a very intelligent man
he has a lot of life experience
his analysis of whatever his day's topic is
always fascinating.
And he is fun to listen to
especially when he swears
It's just perfect how he selectively
drops F bombs.
In my opinion, he is worth listening to
and his information is mostly accurate
and useful.

As for Hammer's Slammers?
I'm not familiar with that one.
Is it good?

I'll be awake for a few more hours.

I appreciate what has been shared so far.wthread

I'm wondering if anyone wants to discuss '1984' 'Brave New World' or 'Catcher in the Rye".

You might wonder why
I include 'Catcher in the Rye'
Is it science-fiction?
In certain ways...yes it is!

But I'm not going to get into that
unless someone wants to explore that
rabbit trail.
Because that trail will lead us into MK-Ultra.
