I would not consider her a POP star but a very serious performer. Incidentally, Karens Black counterpart was Minnie Ripperton RIP ( she was great). Patrice Rushen was also very good (u probably never heard of) The above singers WERE NOT AUTO-TUNED like today Too many good singers mentioned already (m.carey) to be able to choose. Paula Abdul is also a contender. I always felt liked Rose Royce better for black singers. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69279362 My pick is Mariah Carey. She was the perfect mix of everything that makes an attractive woman in the 90s and innocent and sweet like this. Her singing was off the charts, and she had lots of inspirational songs too. [link to youtube.com (secure)] Whitney |

I can control your mind, try not to picture Statue of Liberty. You can’t control my mind because I couldn’t picture those people if I tried. This is for the #1 female pop artist of all time. Madonna has been the #1 pop star her entire adult life. Britney Spears emulated her, almost anyone around the world knows Madonna. She is the Elvis of Female musicians and she hasn’t managed to get herself killed. Again, you gave examples of people I’ve literally never ever ever heard of, EVER! |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 69279362 Australia 01/14/2022 03:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "Losing Grip" by Avril Lavigne is my favorite song by a female pop star because it's an effective mix of so many different styles. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69279362 Pop Heavy metal Grunge And it even switches between styles of being a ballad and a hard rock song very effectively. Plus it's very emotional without overdoing it. All of that makes it unique and great like nothing else I have heard. [link to youtube.com (secure)] Metallica must have noticed that stuff because they let Avril Lavigne do a cover of one of their songs on a live show honoring Metallica. Lavigne did a great job here.
