N-95 Masks are the "Medical Grade" ones and their production facilities and quality control is monitored by the FDA since they are regarded as a "Medical" product.

KN-95's are NOT "Medical Grade" but in theory are exactly the same it is just that those production facilities and quality control are NOT certified by the FDA.

Often the N-95's and KN-95's are made on parallel production lines using the exact same manufacturing equipment and same materials.

KN-95's traditionally are the ones used in industry, where they have been utilized in all sorts applications where GOOD masking is needed, but full respirators are not needed since they are MUCH cheaper to buy than the N-95's even though if decently made are functionally equivalent.

YEP ... most KN-95's come from China since in an industrial setting most purchasers have been concerned about COST and CHEAPER than any US, or advanced world, manufacturer can.

N-95's are at this time virtually unavailable for anybody in the US except for those in Medicine since they are in such short supply.

OH ... and contrary to what some here say, if a decent seal is obtained on the face they ARE very effective at their filtering task since middle layers have electrostatic charges on the fibers that attract the "bad" stuff just like any other electrostatic filter does, including the big ones in industrial and home settings (which is why reusing these filters doesn't work so well because the electrostatic charge layers are "filled up" with crud over time just like it's big cousins do)
