I had a professor somewhat like this in Uni.
Not as profane, but he scared the living fuck out of 95% of the students who signed up for his class. They then dropped out.
The rest of us did psych evaluations on Pink Floyd albums, and rode motorcycles on the weekend.

We became great friends, because we both appreciated the necessity of hurting cowards and kicking ass to achieve goals.
