Well, cats have a way of showing up and deciding you are going to be their owner.
Quoting: GA Girl Cats don't have owners, though they will hang around where there is food and somewhere warm to sleep. Some cats are more friendly towards humans and understand who is friendly and who isn't. Some cats are skittish / aggressive / timid however much they are cared for.
