First becuase the military uses acroyms to talk about everything becuase it saves time. We had a bad a$$ military for some time too. It sounds like you are "in the know" somehow to use acronyms. They think it makes them appears smarter to know somethign you don't. Bedcause being smart in the USA is mostly a perception not that it is actually true.
