Winter Roof Snow and Ice Removal

That my friend is why I live in the south.

Lol, yup.. the snow is pretty but I’m pretty tired of it now.

April showers time rolls around…HEY HONEY! The Roof is leaking.

I have to clean

the snow off of

my greenhouse

every year

or the plastic panels

will collapse in.


I didn't do it one year

and a couple of the

plastic panels did

collapse in, which was

a pain in the ass to clean up.

We get the right amount maybe 5 or 6 days of snow in a normal year. The one funny thing is if we get 1/2 these people around here think OMG must run and buy all the milk and bread lol

Ya I don’t like going up there, might have to make some repairs this spring, I did catch a few roofing nails with my snow shovel there.

It’s a chore, but worth it to avoid damage like that.

Our neighbor gets up on his roof with a snowblower.

Seriously.

Greed and fear seem to rule far too many people.

Lol, that’s gotta be tough, hauling a snow blower up there!

I've had good luck with a snow roof rake.

Keeps me firmly planted on the ground and gets enough off the roof that I don't end up with the damned ice dams.

The snow rake is a great idea, less chance of falling off the roof that way.

I'm surprised they don't make a low voltage heat system to put a end to getting on the roof.

My greenhouse already collapsed, I was a bit too late...

They do, hella expensive, hard to install, expensive as hell to operate.

That's why I switched to the roof rake.

I bought a roof snow shovel rake ...I'm not going out sick to do this. This is the time I can use a man around

If you live in Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, ND, SD, Montana.. don't worry about your roof collapsing. Houses are designed differently in these areas. Very low chance of serious roof damage.

I am not saying don't use a roof rake. I use them often, but there is very little chance of serious damage for homes in these areas. Clearing ice dams is important but your roof will be fine in almost all cases.

Metal roofs are the boss. You need a minimum of a 7/12 pitch which is 30 degrees to get the snow sliding.

Use a 45 degree slope and never worry about snow load. My shop has a modified gothic arch that goes right to the foundation wall.

Plan ahead for snow pushing if you are building new in snow country.

I live in W Montana and own a snow plow. It amazes me how many people have garage roofs that shed snow in front of their garage doors.

They can't get a vehicle out until they get the snow moved from in front of the doors.

Idiots everywhere.
