Two foot overhang in the back. Metal roofing. Snow just slides off that roof and onto that steep hill in back. You can run a truck snowplow across the front of the building and never touch a shovel. |

You need a minimum of a 7/12 pitch which is 30 degrees to get the snow sliding. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 81713459 Use a 45 degree slope and never worry about snow load. My shop has a modified gothic arch that goes right to the foundation wall. Plan ahead for snow pushing if you are building new in snow country. YUP. ALL OF OUR ROOFING IS EITHER SOLAR THERMAL PANELS OR METAL RIBBED ROOFING. EXCEPT FOR THE GREENHOUSE WE NEVER HAVE TO CLEAR OFF A ROOF. 30 INCHES SINCE LAST NIGHT AND WE JUST FINISHED THE CLEANUP OF THE DRIVEWAYS/PATHS TO THE BARNS/HENHOUSE/PIGGERY. |

He had a hillside lot so the backside of the foundation is essentially a concrete retaining wall. Just need to be careful of the icicles. Many people may not be aware that the snow load melts from the bottom up. The reason is almost always inadequate ventilation from the attic space. You don't need an attic proper, air just needs to flow beneath the substrate, which is the roof deck. Proper ventilation will keep the roof deck a stable temp to avoid ice damming and back up from the freeze thaw cycles. A roof rake is safer. |

Low voltage heat would be high current and that would get expensive fast. Aether for the Soul [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] |

I refuse to waste my time doing such things. My metal roofs shed snow when needed, though this year has been an easy one. Snow is shit. The less time wasted on it the better. I don't even plow most of my driveways. It all goes away eventually, so who even cares. |

It’s better to build for automatic snow removal, alas, this patio deck is not such a construct. It was kinda fun to clear it though. You don’t even plough your driveway?! How’s anyone going to visit you? ..or maybe that’s the point! Aether for the Soul [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] |
