Quoting: MaybeTrollingU Not sure "punk" and smart phones can coexist. One of the two has to go. Sounds like "This isn't music!! Back in my days that it was good!" Dude, times have changed. Things have changed. One either goes with the flow or gets shelved to gather dust. |

Sounds like "This isn't music!! Back in my days that it was good!" Dude, times have changed. Things have changed. One either goes with the flow or gets shelved to gather dust. Well yeah. I'll spare us the argument over what is "punk rock" and what isn't. But yeah punk got shelved for a reason. I saw the interview with the guy who created and managed and ran the Warped Tour. He said before smart phones, he could sell tickets; after smart phones, he couldn't. Now there's a couple reasons for this. One is smart phones are about social media, which is about conformity. By definition, if you are carrying around your phone and checking it, you obviously care what other people think, because, dude, you're like waiting on edge for the latest message from them. Punk rock, on the other hand is about extremely not GAF about what people think. So the two don't mix. Punk got shelved. Not saying there aren't still bands and all. There are. Not saying there aren't true punks anymore. There are. Just saying, Warped Tour, as it was back then, ain't coming back as long as there is social media and smart phones. |

But if you didn't like it, go live in the woods, maybe with the natives. And the woods were big, man, big. |

Never. Little kids kill themselves over crap on social media. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 79140629 Now Puritan New England, for example, back in the 1600s and 1700s was a pressure cooker of conformity. There is just not much of a market for white boy rage music. Sorry. Nobody buying. White boy rage is no longer cool. White boys aren't supposed to rage anymore. They're supposed to grovel or to try to be something other than white boys. They're supposed to disavow their whiteness, and to lionize and mimic non-whiteness. Just sayin. So white boy rage music is dead. That would be rock, punk rock, and country. You think punk is dead? Have you seen what has become of country? Holy smokes! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79140629 United States 01/18/2022 04:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Punk rock girls were few and far between even back in the golden era of punk rock. There were perhaps more general rock girls. But with the rise of phones and social media, the pressure to conform hit that teenage girl demographic the hardest. They were totally captured. The few that would have been punk rock girls migrated over to hip hop and rap. That hit rock music ticket sales, with add on effects that half the dudes that bought tickets and went to shows went there to try to get laid. Women, or rather, teen girls led the exodus from rebel rock to mainstream hip hop. The males bought phones and loosely participated in social media in desperate attempts to get laid. Punk and rock died. Then it became totally uncool to be a white boy. Then the white boys were trapped and defeated. And that folks is the end of rock, punk and country. Which, ok, I confess still exists on a smaller and limited scale, but really can't return to its roots or be real as long as it is forced to coexist with social media and smart phones. Thus smart phones RUIN EVERYTHING> |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 79140629 United States 01/18/2022 04:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Right. Manufactured rebellion. Hard to argue against that. By the time you turn 13, there's someone ready to hand you a beer and a smoke, tell you that is the good life, introduce you to mindless music, and help you down a path that ends in prison or the grave. Plus, the talking points of Fat Mike and 2/3 the political pop punk bands of the 90s were gerrymandered by the establishment left. That created confusion in the scene as what was once seen as radical ideas became more mainline, creating an identity crisis within the genre. Still, punk rock was the brains of rock. It was high brow and alert. If any music scene had a chance of funneling a kid towards self-actualization, as opposed to self-destruction, it, um, well, maybe, eh, ok could have been, say straight edge punk. Eh? No? |

There are more tatted, drunk og drug abusing, legal pr otherwise, perverted sex freaks than there are NOT in cities now. They were always shitholes. Just more so now. Punk revolutionary is gone. The moment passed. It's gone now. There's plenty of music that sounds punk, but none with the message. Everything now is pro-war pro-satan pro-establishment. Even rap. |

User ID: 79688307 United States 01/18/2022 05:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My daughter just turned 13 last year. She's been studying guitar for five years. She got her first electric guitar for Christmas...a brand new turquuoise Squire Fender Stratocaster. I was pretty stoked about that. But yeah, she is not at all a rebel and that is a good thing. Maybe that is the final turning. I am not the sort of father she probably needs to rebel against. Mine was another story entirely. AKA Tiger Blood |
