My two cents for what it's worth. I think the increase in emergencies is directly related to covid. On people show symptoms in flight they do do a rapid test. Passenger on a plane test positive for covid squawk 7700.

Are they real emergencies or technical difficulties?

Fellow airline pilot here and still in the industry. I posted a few months ago about running the bluetooth scan at altitude and getting 75+ pings from unique signals.

Right now were currently 30% down on manpower across the board, and we're still trying to see if this is due to illness or people taking extended breaks. Eventually everybody has to come back to work, bill are due at the end of the month.

We were flying into IAH a few months ago and there was a United Widebody parked on taxiway SB, near the Runway 27 threshold, facing west, with all the emergency vehicles parked around it. Other pilot mentioned that it was weird for the vehicles to be there and not at the gate, and I realized a few weeks later that it was like that due to pilot emergency, not PAX emergency.

I had my medical scheduled a few months ago, and I was coming up on my age 35 EKG. I was trying to see if I could do it a few days early to save a few bucks (Age 34). The Air Medical examiner rescheduled and made me take the EKG. She wanted to see what was going on, so I suspect this is something that is occurring that they are looking for. I've heard a few rumors about United pilots failing their EKG. Not sure if it's related to the manpower shortage. Scott Kirby is going all in on virtue signaling on the vaccine and is openly lying about the effects of the virus on the industry. He openly says that there hasn't been a death in the industry due to the vaccine mandate and cites Newark as an example, while simultaneously Denver Airport grinds to a halt and leaves United Aircraft stranded on the ramp for 3+ hours during a snow storm. Was it manpower shortage due to vaccine mandates? Was is a union walk out? Who knows, we won't ever know. He speaks with one hand and deals out with another. When Scott was speaking to the Senate, he looked like Fry from Futurama. All that was missing was the flying chair.

We're really fucked and this industry isn't going to get unfucked any time soon. I have feelings and emotions related to this, but for the sake of the situation I will say we are in a very unique situation of possibly losing access to an entire mode of transportation that this country relatively took for granted since WW2.

That is cool! Just got to see that in action last week when my daughter flew. Our neighborhood is below a flight path and we hear flights all the time. I typed in her flight number and saw on the map and heard her flight go over us. I was like "That's her hear that? She's flying over us right now!

Former military air traffic controller, executive pilot on jets, airline station manager and airport senior manager, I confirm that squawking 7700 was rare and a serious threat to safety.

With years, I saw the crews' and passengers' behaviour changed. The threats come from the 'load' far more than the plane itself.

So, squawking 7700 could turn out to be an easy way to land first, instead of waiting in the stack, should the reason be totally, partially valid or not. Only the crew states what the level of emergency was. Besides, that could be a way to send a message to the airline management forcing the crews to get vaccinated.

Again, there are valid reasons. But behaviours change...

5G fucking with their avionics, clot shots and a wave of unruly passengers that are on a mental edge from all the undue lock up over the past 2 years. Vaccine mandate battles and rage because of it in the industry coupled with lay offs , threats , over worked and stressed employees. And yes the pilots on edge wondering if they are getting ready to stroke out from the death shots. Yes I can see why.

In an era of Covid and Karen Gestapos, what's going on is likely a variety of factors.

It's like a perfect storm of mass hype, mass panic, mass Karens.

It's interesting, however, that in an age of social media, more of what's occurring isn't being gossiped about.

It's just a person that lowered their mask to take a sip of water.

How many of these alerts are due to the uptick in unruly passengers ?

Clot shots for passengers have emergencies in air... not mechanical relat3d otherwise, you would have crashes with the increases.

Could most of these emergencies be caused by all the crazy people acting out on flights? Seems there’s an epidemic of people having outbursts and getting violent on flights now.

The ekg failure for the others is probably vax related.

The issue with 5G is not the radio.

It is interference with the radar altimeter that is the only instrument giving vital height over ground info.

That was just a small sampling of a day of emergencies, I’m sure there’s a mixture of civilian and military every day. But it would be interesting to keep track of to see most of these do end up being military flights.
