Probably all sorts of stuff going on, pilots ill, clots, heart attacks, people kicking off over masks, maybe maintenance is delayed because of staff shortages, parts, etc too. |

Also you should expect the number of emergencies to increase along with the ever broadening rules of what constitutes an emergency. There are probably other operational changes that contribute to what you’re seeing. For example, in your day, a light shows is on that would’ve been ignored in the past until the plane reaches a destination could be investigated. Whereas today, an emergency is declared and the ship returns to the airport of origin. |

I don’t know that they would do it for trivial things. I don’t know though, maybe they are declaring emergencies because someone took their mask off. That would be just friggin nuts. Dandman |

I have an app on my phone, it’s a free app that you can download yourself, it is called flightradar24. One of the really cool features of this app is you can have alerts set up so if an aircraft somewhere in the world declares an emergency, in the industry we call it squawking 7700, you can get a notification. I’ve had this app for years and usually you would see one to four emergencies pop up every month. That’s how it’s always been, aviation is pretty safe, there’s not a whole lot of emergencies worldwide on the monthly basis. But over the last couple of months I have been getting notifications sometimes up to 10 times a day. I’ve already had four this morning! Something huge and scary is going on out there and nobody is talking about it. I am seeing so many aircraft declaring emergencies on a daily basis, and I don’t know what the fuck is going on. You don’t have to believe me, you can download the app for yourself and set up the notifications. A lot of emergencies happening these days, I don’t know if I want to fly commercially anymore. Quoting: 580Dandman as a pilot you should know that for years airlines have neglected to keep maintenance on the planes so mechnical problems are happening more often thats all |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 80479975 United States 01/20/2022 11:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hello, Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80360612 Fellow airline pilot here and still in the industry. I posted a few months ago about running the bluetooth scan at altitude and getting 75+ pings from unique signals. Right now were currently 30% down on manpower across the board, and we're still trying to see if this is due to illness or people taking extended breaks. Eventually everybody has to come back to work, bill are due at the end of the month. We were flying into IAH a few months ago and there was a United Widebody parked on taxiway SB, near the Runway 27 threshold, facing west, with all the emergency vehicles parked around it. Other pilot mentioned that it was weird for the vehicles to be there and not at the gate, and I realized a few weeks later that it was like that due to pilot emergency, not PAX emergency. I had my medical scheduled a few months ago, and I was coming up on my age 35 EKG. I was trying to see if I could do it a few days early to save a few bucks (Age 34). The Air Medical examiner rescheduled and made me take the EKG. She wanted to see what was going on, so I suspect this is something that is occurring that they are looking for. I've heard a few rumors about United pilots failing their EKG. Not sure if it's related to the manpower shortage. Scott Kirby is going all in on virtue signaling on the vaccine and is openly lying about the effects of the virus on the industry. He openly says that there hasn't been a death in the industry due to the vaccine mandate and cites Newark as an example, while simultaneously Denver Airport grinds to a halt and leaves United Aircraft stranded on the ramp for 3+ hours during a snow storm. Was it manpower shortage due to vaccine mandates? Was is a union walk out? Who knows, we won't ever know. He speaks with one hand and deals out with another. When Scott was speaking to the Senate, he looked like Fry from Futurama. All that was missing was the flying chair. We're really fucked and this industry isn't going to get unfucked any time soon. I have feelings and emotions related to this, but for the sake of the situation I will say we are in a very unique situation of possibly losing access to an entire mode of transportation that this country relatively took for granted since WW2. I remember your post! Have you been vaxxed? The ekg failure for the others is probably vax related. I won’t answer if I’ve been vaccinated or not, but I am not worried about the effects of the vaccine if you get my drift. There was a lot of pressure in the industry due to the OSHA mandate so a lot of co-workers buckled and finally got the shot. I was personally prepared to walk but fortunately I can still keep my employment until the next round of fuckery comes about. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 73714449 United States 01/20/2022 11:24 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My two cents for what it's worth. I think the increase in emergencies is directly related to covid. On people show symptoms in flight they do do a rapid test. Passenger on a plane test positive for covid squawk 7700. Quoting: Desertwolf That is not an emergency. An emergency is a heart or brain clot from the shot. 7700 gets them clearance at the closest airport to land at. At 33000 feet, that could be one of hundreds, so the biggest airport. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76694792 01/20/2022 11:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | KUDOS TO THE OP VAXTASTROPHE IN THE SKY This was real easy to fact check, it is legit I have fact checked this, it is legit. In-flight emergency sqwaks, (sqwak 7700) have indeed increased by about 124X (12,400 percent) since the vax. Gosh, that matches the previous percentage increase of pilot deaths too. Pretty soon we are going to start having planes with both pilot and co-pilot disabled. A while ago I posted a list of all the commercial pilot deaths post vax. Pilots are quite healthy so usually the list only has a few per year. However, after the vax there were hundreds on the list for 2021. But was VERY EASY to confirm. I frequently look at flightradar24: [link to www.flightradar24.com (secure)] So I suspected this was legit and sure enough, there really are that many planes declaring emergencies. I did not know how many was normal, so I looked for precedent and found it. Normally there really are only a few sqwaks per month, here is a post from six years ago where a pilot is wondering why there were suddenly 1-4 per week. I wonder what he would think of 10 per day. This is on Aviation.stackexchange before the shot, a few a week was a lot. WTH is going on???? [link to aviation.stackexchange.com (secure)] |
