fitness: do hard things (cardio shmardio) (diet shmiet)
I was thinking about all the people I know who get no where doing cardio and low calorie diets.

Every year I become a couch potato and then when gardening season begins I lift, I pull, I dig, I drag and it hurts all over! But at the end of it I'm fit again.

And I don't diet! I might eat a bit less just because I'm off the couch.

It just occurred to me that fitness isn't about cardio, at least for me and my body type. (your mileage may vary)

Fitness happens to me when I make my muscles do hard things. And none of it is "cardio".

I once knew an aerobics instructor with a beer belly. He danced all day and still his gut held on.

Getting outside is also important and probably part of my yearly "cure".

Definition of "hard things" varies by person, and all people should start SLOW. For some walking to the mailbox might be a hard thing to start with. But when that hurdle is overcome, it's time to build muscle. Walking is just transportation.

Anyways, that's my rant. I've decided not to be a couch potato this year--it hurts too much in spring! Anyone want to join me?

I just did four sprints and dragged heavy stuff around the yard.

You are confusing things.

Cardio is catabolic stress due to cortisol...I assure you it works especially along with low carb..you gonna use that fat especially the belly which is related to insuline sensitivity . You gonna even consume your subcutaneous fat that isn't a good thing.

Then there is anabolic triggers activities that rise other hormones like vitamin D and testosterone/DHT.

But yes, vitamin D and testosterone would probably enough to keep you fit without the cardio.
Funny thing vitamin D and testosterone do actually damage your heart.

Hi Florida Man!

I've been walking to get sunshine and fresh air, and also stretching on the living room floor. I take a small barbell and go up and down the stairway holding it in various position, like over my head or behind my back. I've been doing leg lifts and pushups and occasionally sprints. I actually thought the sprints did the most for me of everything so far, actually thinking my waist felt skinnier the very next day.

I've decided to do everything the hard way. Like putting socks and shoes on standing up. Balance is important.
