I have never believed the programming that it is necessary to thin the herd but hunters believe it

Hunting deer is a great way to enjoy nature and also put some meat in your freezer. There is nothing inhumane about it. Hunters do far more for conservation than the average “environmentalist”, and the animals they harvest have better lives than livestock. People who have No qualms whatsoever about eating a burger get all upset when they see a deer lying dead in a photo. It’s silly.

Unless you are a dedicated vegan, STFU.

He is hunting during the winter in Alaska. Survival for deer and moose during the winter there can be challenging due to lack of food. Hunters put food on their own tables, and enable there to be less competition for food among the deer population.

I call bullshit!! There are several feet of snow currently covering pretty much all of Alaska. Def not a recent pic.

We’re allowed 5 a year, up here… sometimes a group will go out by boat, anchor up, and hunt for a week. Come back with 15-20 deer, or so. The terrain is not easy; but the meat for our family’s freezer is a true blessing.
It’s not unusual to not have snow at times, but a lot of rain. Judging by the pic though, the height of sun and foliage looks most prob like fall. Most deer hunting here is Oct through Dec ; non resident hunters prob hunt deer more like end of Aug thru Oct- I’d have to look up the regs (ADF&G website, game management units 1-6, I think- down in Southeast AK.) So prob pic is fall of this last year. That is one of the biggest Sitka balk tail deer I’ve seen; they’re small, with smaller racks than whitetail… but super super tasty! I’m not all up on info on those areas, cause we have mostly moose, bear, and caribou that we hunt, a little further north here. The commercial fishing families (including 2 of my sons) take off to go hunt those areas with their boats, in between fishing seasons (between summer salmon and long lining for ground fish). I’m so blessed to have sons that bring Mom deer to go along with our other game- I guess I taught them well. :)
We completely support the non resident hunters that come up as well- they usually fly their meat home in insulated fish boxes; they contribute to our economy and maintenance of the habitat. Im not understanding the hate for hunting that I’m hearing. That attitude is just plain weird and foreign, and to tell you the truth, a little alarming and scary. Hunting is as normal and vital as breathing up here. And if you want to get technical, the state game biologists spend many hours utilizing SCIENCE to hike, fly over, research, and determine our game bag limits for hunting.
I’ll tell you who was the IDIOT….. when Obama came up to Alaska to do his “climate change visit” in 2015, I think- somehow he thought it was a brilliant idea to arrive on September 1st. On the first day of moose season!! That caused hundreds of planes to be grounded, small businesses selling Av gas lost thousands of dollars of revenue; hunts postponed, school release times delayed (still scratching my head on that one) it was a real mess. We were glad to see that fucker leave. The secret service were kind of cool, though; but never could figure out why they ironed their jeans.
I don’t know about you, but I’d rather eat tasty meat that I’ve hunted, instead of spending $800 plus at the store for it; especially not knowing how it was raised or butchered.

No, he did NOT just keep the antlers. Theres two guys in the photo. Probably more behind the scenes, they field dressed the deer, quartered it and packed it out, its what all hunters do.
youre not always in an area you can take the deer back to the car whole. Hes a billionaires son, the son of the former president, Im sure he hired someone to carry it back for him. Hes just carrying the antlers for the photo op
