You don't really quarantine things that aren't sick. Well, not until COVID came along, but still. . . . this fact implies that something was wrong with the monkeys. all animals entering this country are quarantined for at least 31 days. all of them pets zoo animals research animals all of them maybe it's rusty but use your brian. think! Taking a cue from the complacent ones....I don't think you can prove that. CDC, FDA, and .gov statements mean jack shit in todays world. I worked with research animals for over a decade. The red tape involved is immense. Training, justifications, facilities management, pain mitigation, food and environment quality, routine inspections from random, sometimes hostile inspectors, on and on. Quarantine is literally baked into the cake for any animal with a backbone. Do I trust government entities? Hell, no. Do I believe imported monkeys were going to be quarantined even if healthy? Absolutely, no question. |

Test animals would be infected AFTER they reached a research facility and observed in controlled circumstances. Quoting: Leto Fox Obviously, they're not going to experiment on animals without knowing if they are sick beforehand. This. Not saying that they couldn't have some transmissible disease, just that quarantine is routine on animals. And is this for any disease or 9nly for zoonotic ones? Or is it same protocol all run under CDC no matter what? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80048397 Yeah, I would’ve thought the inspection of border crossing animals was to be conducted by veterinarians working for USDA Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). |

User ID: 80045642 United States 01/23/2022 01:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ... Quoting: Shark150 Experienced aquarium keeper here. YES -- you do quarantine healthy animals before putting them in with others. Why? Because transport of live animals is extremely stressful on them and they become immune compromised. So if they have some illness you don't know about -- because you can't possibly screen them for everything under the sun -- they may become diseased due to immune suppression from stress caused by transport. So how does one handle this? A period of quarantine to determine *IF* disease outbreak will occur. If not, then you integrate them into the quarters with the rest of the population. This is basic fishkeeping, and this practice is not only limited to fish. Who quarantines the fish? You, for the protection of your fishery, or at the port of entry into the country? Serious question with all due respect. You definitely quarantine them yourself if you're following basic fishkeeping practices. You set up a dedicated tank for solely this purpose, called -- believe it or not -- a "quarantine tank". The pet store will quarantine fish as well. If they don't, then don't buy from them, because almost all fish carry parasites that their unsuppressed immune system can fight off but their suppressed immune system will cause a communicable outbreak ("ich" for example). As far as importation laws go, I'm not sure what restrictions there are regarding quarantine of fish specifically, and a quick search doesn't turn up anything helpful (... although I did see one for cats, dogs, and monkeys [link to www.ecfr.gov (secure)] and [link to www.ecfr.gov (secure)] ). Thanks for the info. As far as the monkeys are concerned,it is stated in several reports that the "monkeys had just arrived in New York, and were on there way to a CDC quarantine facility". I think that most would translate this statement as saying that the monkeys were on the way to quarantine. Not that they had been quarantined. Since all animals imported into the country for commercial/scientific/government use are quarantined and examined for disease before being allowed to their final destination, it would make sense that quarantine centers would be built near a few major international airports. In every such case, the animals would still need to be trucked from the airport to the quarantine center. The fact that these arrived in NYC and needed to be shipped to PA seems a bit of a distance, but not extravagant. In fact, an 8 hour distance would allow the trucker to drive non-stop. This is a great thread for discussion, but why do you insist on not changing the title where there is clearly no evidence stated or implied that it is true? Your Huckleberry |

They quarantine all animals entering the country, even if they were given a clean bill of health in their country of origin. They quarantine and check them again, especially as international transport lower's the immunity of animals and latent viruses can replicate and infect them during transport, or they can pick something up during transport.
